even in the celebrity world is rather common. When a mentally ill celebrity has a setback, his or her publicist will say that their client is in 'rehab' when the reality is they are in a psych ward or hospital somewhere.
The way they see it - rehab is more accepting to the general public than psych ward.

It would totally depend on what the prognosis/diagnos was,....rehab for manic depression? Mental Illness and addiction, although at times related, can also be totally indepedent of each other

Yes rehab is different than psych ward or psychiatric hospital. Rehab is a place to go for addicition, its just that sometimes publicists/agents will tell the public a white lie and tell them that their client is in rehab when in actuality he or she is seeking help for their coexisting mental illness issues - in a psych ward or hospital. Stigma towards the mentally ill exists in all different kinds of circles

Its a real problem in Ireland,if you have an addiction they say you can't be treated in a Mental institution,so they try and get you in to Rehab.
If you then successfully complete Rehab you most likely then will then get treated for any mental health issues with prescription drugs.(Possible Addiction)

But the medical people tell us SSRI's etc. are not addictive in order to kowtow to the drugs industry. And they are right, according to their definition of addiction.
But, they do lead to high dependency, and that is not disputed...that makes the drug companies happy.
