If you have taken the time to write an e-mail to a person after reading their profile;

Is it rude to be ignored? Or should you at least get some reply?

I think so, yes, depending on the type of message received. The problem is, lots of people don't like a "thanks but no thanks" response and I'm sure many don't respond because of it.

I think maybe copy and paste... "Thanks but I'm involved, as my profile states " but, that takes time away from the Forums, which is what I am on here for,so I don't answer all my e mails..

I would rather have a polite "thanks but no" as opposed to nothing at all. Otherwise, I am always tempted to try writing again. But then I try to write a polite message to begin with. Usually a little more then "Hey HMU" or "Wanna get it on?"... To those types of messages, who cares what they think?

I pick and choose, as well. I do, however, believe that posting a profile and telling the CS clubbers who you are and what some of your stats, interests are, is a tacit invitation to communicate. Otherwise, why do it? You wouldn't go into a newsstand and ask the clerk if he carried any reading material, would you?doh Sometimes I really think folks need to have a clearer view of just why they join a communicating club. To tell people NOT to write to you?doh

I've got much bigger things to feel bad about. From the pollution caused by Chinese industrialisation, the mortgaged futures of children whose lives will never be, and the fact that I wear some pairs of underpants more than others.

It's pretty common for people to feel it's very rude, when they're new to this.
Once it's explained why it happens, most people understand.

Emails are usually ignored because the recipient doesn't want backlash over a polite "thanks but no thanks", or because the sender was acting counter the recipients stated preferences. Such as contacting people that say they don't wish to be contacted or ignoring age or location preferences.

No, it's not being rude.

It's simply saying I'm not interested in chatting.

I don't respond because when I have engaged, a refusal to continue chat, has often offended.

So, I take the kinder approach and don't respond. Most people get the message when I don't reply.

Sometimes, I must admit, I feel a bit of a meanie, but it works best for me.

Hi
I have made it a bit easy for me. I added on my profile, if they ask for my email or personal id something like that lol I will not respond. Otherwise I do try to answer. Funny thing is they still ask for my mail, so sometimes i do write back suggest they go back to school cos they have reading probs. And problems understanding the written word. After all I am Swedish so guess its normal not to understand me

Personally if the e-mail is in good taste and you are ignoring them - I would consider it rude or impolite. It would be interesting to note how many women ignore e-mails in comparison to men.

Depends what you put in the email. If it was somewhat innocuous...why would they ignore it????
