A lot of restaurants pay below the minimum wage, then guilt trip the customers into mandatory tipping. How is that even acceptable?
I refuse to tip if it's a mandatory one included on the bill, but will put a tip on the table as I leave that will cover what I thought they deserved. I won't be forced to pay a standard tip, if the food and service was terrible and I make that clear as I'm led to the table.

Hi 2girlsnocup, nice to see you back.
I always tip in restaurants and bars ( cafe's).Eventhough in France the service in most restaurants is included in the bill. I also tip when I take a simple coffee at the stand at a bar, without sitting down.

I so disagree with Mr. Pink (in Reservoir Dogs) that I do tip even at the drive-through window at McDonalds....

Hi Alexandro, good to see you back as well. Did you have a nice time away?
Does that mean you double tip? For that, I hope you get good service and a decent meal. I didn't know people tipped at bars, just for a coffee. Would you tip the same if it was in a different place, like McDonalds or any other major chain?
If I've picked up a large round at a bar and I'm paying by cash, I will usually 'round up' the amount to the nearest 10, then pay that and leave the change.

Thx ,no I wasnt away .Yes, I guess I double tip. The service and the food in major restaurants in france are good. The french bar is not like the usuall english bar that you sit down and you have a chip butty or like merry england. Here in bars you can play loto ,euromillion and at the same time have a cup of coffee ( expresso ) and most of them, they are also tobaccos and they have tables that you can have a quick eat. Croque mesieur, Croque madame ecc...ecc ( type of sandwiches ). And no as much as I love mc-donald ,whimpy, Burger King, KFC I dont leave a tip.
I round up the amount normally. tipping is not common in West Europe. I always hated that people in high class places got bigger tips then those in lowclass places. The employer should guarantee a decent income regardless of customers. I have a job without tips, most jobs are without tips.
If i would have a regular dinner i would offer a newyear

A service charge is not included in the bill in Bulgaria (but some countries do have it), so if the waiting staff wants tips he/she should do a proper service to receive them. 8-10% of the bill is my normal tipping. I do have favourite places for dining and the staff knows me well, so no bad service so far.
That is what have found n the 13 years I have lived here. The service is good and not just because they want a tip. They see a tip as a bonus, a thank you, not there right.

Unfortunately I was the one making dinner last night.. But if I had been out I would not have tipped as I think the same as you, they should be paid a living wage for the job they do and not have to rely on getting a tip. I wouldn't do a job if I wasn't getting paid a fair wage

plus the fact. by law,you have to declare your tips.....for tax dedutions...how many know that.???????
I tip depending on the service...I remember my accounting professor told us that if the service is bad leave a penny..the message is your service worth a penny for a tip,,that lousy. I have done it few times.
