Have you read "Cities in Flight" Ken? Surprised nobody mentioned Robert Heinlein yet or John Steinbeck, or Mark Twain, or Edgar Allen Poe, or Edgar Rice Borroughs.

minnieme2: A few more I had no room for: Tom Clancy, Agatha Christie, Ernest Hemingway, Cecelia Aherne, Marian Keyes, Jackie Collins.
Agatha Christie is a clasic, I have enjoyed some of her novels. Stephen King? no way, I do not like horror. J. Grisham has some interesting novels.
Ernest Hemingway, I have not read much of him but I would love to. In fact, I have a few of his books waiting to be read.
Historical novel would be better for me and that is what I would prefer, especialy related to ancient cultures, along with world politicsand and etc...

I like most in your list. I would add Ian Flemming and Edgar Rice Burroughs but drop Spider Robinson to make it mine.
Jack London was always one of my favs. His short stories like "To build a Fire" and "Love of Life" put you in the time and place of the main character not to mention the dire life or death situation he was in.

Arthur C. Clarke and Terry McMillan the only names I recognise there! Must read more! :)
