Brianebartlett: How do you feel about contact with your ex?
We have a kid, not her fault we couldn't make it work. We stayed on good terms, talked through issues regarding her, went to sports days and school days together.
If there hadn't been that tie, though, I would probably have walked away without a backward glance. It was over, we didn't even like each other at that point. Friends now, though.

sure why not?? i keep them as friendships but we drift further apart. i still trust one of my ex-partners with substantial money transactions regularly. we have been apart over 20yrs as friends.

I can see reasons why people do it but it pisses me off that it's now a "thing" to befriend your ex. This reeks of vanity and shallowness on one side and weakness on the other. The one doing the dumping is too hollow and shameless to feel guilty and the dumped is too insecure to really let go.

Obstinance_Works: Oftentimes that applies to both partners.
When you grow and mature mentally, YOU will realise that LIFE is too SHORT to hold grudges, its takes too much energy and time you might spend doing something else.........
I couldn't answer yes and no! I get along Great with my first ex. ( we were young and realized it wouldn't work out.) ex- wifey #2 would like to run me over with a bus.
Obstinance, if someone wants to stay friends with me should I say cannot be friends with them because I treated them terribly, would that not be even more terrible to them even though it would be for their own good? It actually prolongs the guilt for the dumping party. It is a good way of making sure the the other feels sufficiently guilty. I do agree people should have more self respect

We have to see each other sometimes for our children's interests and family matters and I have not a problem with it but I do prefer to have the minimun comunication with the Father of my children.
After about 17 years of being divorced, I am still in touch with him and we are very cordial with each other. He is the father of our only child and although we divorced when she was young, we made it a point to be teammates instead of enemies. To this day we sometimes spend holidays together just to please our daughter and make it more convenient for her. I wouldn't say we are Best Friends but we are more like casual friends.
