You haven't fully lived till you work for a government corporation that is unionized. I am on week #2 on Lockout and the rumor is roughly 40 more carefree weeks left.

If the union pays you your regular wages @40 hours per week for 42 weeks... that should come out to about $143k USDs..... sweet
truheart1941: ......huh the only people they pay are themselves....
Huh? Detroit auto worker Union employees used to get strike pay at 90% their regular pay. Which is probably why two of the big three needed government bailouts and concessions and we ended up with government motors, instead of General Motors.

the primary cause of the automotive sector's weakness was substantially more expensive fuel costs linked to the 2003-2008 oil crisis which caused customers to turn away from large sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pickup trucks, the main market of the American "Big Three" (General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler). In 2008, the situation became critical because the global financial crisis and the related credit crunch significantly impaired the ability of consumers to purchase automobiles.

galards the reason that General Motors got the bailouts is because a couple of GMS spokespeople attended a Lansing City Council meeeting threatening to leave Lansing altogether.
One of the times I was up there in Lansing GM had torn two of their plants down. The Cadillac Plant is still there on the South end of town.
There is also one more Plant south of Lansing.GM was also going to build the Cadillac CTS.

Even FoMoCo was giving cars away back then. The federal Cash for clunkers program was stupid. I doubt the UAW regain concessions made in 2008.
can't vote yes and no . There was no doubt '70s early '80s unions did a lot of damage here , nearly ruined the meat industry . Back then NZ very nearly ran up the Red Flag . Funny enough it was a left learning government that broke union power . Pendulum has swung to far now , low paid cannot support themselves . Enjoy your break , might be everlasting . Some union members who looked for other work while the union led them "out" were blacklisted , some had the crap beaten out of them . Bad times . Big yes and no .

DETROIT—Workers at Ford narrowly ratified the company's four-year labor deal with the United Auto Workers, the labor union announced late Friday.
Final results showed that members voted to ratify by a 51.4% majority after a last-minute push by union leaders put the contract over the top at the company's giant Rouge manufacturing complex in Dearborn, Mich.
UAW President Dennis Williams said in a statement that "our UAW members have ratified the national agreement after a long process and much debate.
"The voice of the majority has secured a strong future that will provide job security and economic stability for themselves and their families," Williams said.
A defeat for the contract could have left Ford facing a strike for the first time in 39 years. Related

GM, UAW Reach Tentative Labor Agreement
A similar deal was ratified last month by workers at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, one of Detroit's Big Three automakers, along with Ford and General Motors.
The UAW had been looking to claw back some concessions that were made eight years ago to help the U.S. carmakers survive the recession.
The agreement guarantees legacy workers hired before 2007 a 3% pay increase in the first and third year of the contract and a 4% lump-sum bonus in the second a fourth year of the contract.
In addition, workers also will collect a one-time ratification bonus of $8,500.
The contract also phases out a two-tier pay system that had prevailed at Ford since 2007.
Workers hired after 2007 will reach parity with older workers, who now earn 29 dollars per hour after eight years of service with company.
Many of the second-tier workers hired since 2010 will reach parity within the next four years, said company officials, who said the contract also secured more than $9 billion in new investment in Ford plants in the US.
Earlier on Friday, the UAW announced that it had finally ratified a new labor agreement with GM, covering more than 52,000 workers.
The contract discussion between GM and the UAW had re-opened after workers in the skilled trades' classifications rejected the contract.
Discussion with GM led to adjustments in the contract that will protect the job classifications of skilled trades from further consolidation, the UAW said in a statement.
The adjustments allowed the union's executive board to rule the contract had been ratified since an overall majority of UAW members employed by GM had voted earlier this month to approve the contract.
The economic provisions in the GM contract are virtually identical to the union's contract with Ford.
"General Motors is pleased that the UAW membership ratified the 2015 UAW-GM National Agreement, which is good for employees and the business," Katie McBride, GM spokeswoman said in a statement.
"We will continue to work with our UAW partners to implement the agreement, and engage our employees in improving the business and building great vehicles for our customers," she said.
Not about trust, nor even the need to have unions these days, as management has had decades to practice good relations with employees. However, there was a time when business took advantage of employees and a time when industries did not have Human Resource Departments.
Now, unions are mostly there, due one question that lingers in the minds of employees: What If There Wasn't A Union, at all, none anywhere ?
Unions exist because they can. They have the liberty and freedom to have a voice for the employees if needed, and enter into contract negotiations between management and hourly workers.
Of course!! Onions add zest and flavour to everything, I enjoy them in most dishes and they're packed full of vitamins! Now garlic on the other hand is something one should approach with caution!

Trichoptera: Sorry misread the question!
They said at woodstock stay away from the Brown Onions. I think the worst job in Canada is unionized and its amazing how poorly they are treated and overworked is natural??? P.S.W's
Public sector unions and private sector unions are 2 different breeds of cat. Public sector unions should be totally banned, as should job guarantees. Pay for public employees should be based on actual revenues as should pensions. Private sector unions will find their own level of value over time.

Imagine this.(after a 2 year stall then getting locked out) Then locked out friday with no indication of resolve or future talks. Then a collective agreement sunday morning and a vote at 7pm last night. The vote count is suppose to be tonight but Strike Headquarters is vacant and I am supposedly going to work in the morning since the Lockout is over already???The ratification vote is unknown although if I got on facebook I might have the answer but I do not do Facebook. There is a fairytale in this but I cant be bothered telling it. Funny thing is I was at Headquaters and voted there today before their disappearance and by some chance there were 2 ballots stuck together when I thought the paper was thick TRUST AND SOLIDARITY
