I think that is a common problem among a lot of us. I have a stressful job, myself. It's hard and nasty and I have to work in the middle of a bunch of men all day, but I like what I do and it pays well. So, I guess it all depends on how much you like this job and what your financial situation is. I came to one conclusion with my previous job I had before this one. If you have to talk yourself out of your vehicle to get into work and then drink yourself half to death after you get home to get over the work day, it might just be time to look for another job. I also remind myself that I wouldn't do well in jail.
It depends on the impact the stress is having on you, if it is impacting on your happiness or/and health then leave it, no job is worth it. I have recently left a stressful job and although I am not working yet, I made the right decision for my well being.
I had a stressful job and it took a long time to get a better one and get out of there. Unfortunately there is no one else other than me to pay bills, so I stuck it out and it was well worth it.
If you don't like your job, start applying to get another job and change when you have one.

secretagent09: The rule of thumb is to look for a job while you still have a job.
It's important for potential employers to see that you are employable.
And, it's better to have a steady income while looking.
If possible, go to night school to get the training you need.
Only fools quit and then look for a job.
Every job has it's stresses .. In fact, the higher the rank, the more the stress levels become.. So there's no guarantee , the next job won't be just a stressful.

That's so true. It's just a matter of finding a job that stresses you in a tolerable way. The higher up the ladder you climb expect to endure more stress. I have told myself several times to just stick to a job where I have minimum responsibility and little stress and then my other side kicks in and I find myself putting in for these higher positions that carry a large amount of responsibility. Since I've realized that I do this I have quit fussing about it.
That definitely is a stressful job. If it's not for you then you should look for another job for your own safety, your coworkers safety and the safety of the public.
But I still stand by my suggestion to look for another job before you quit this one.
Well...my opinion is that, firstly, you should be proud of yourself that you succeeded in becoming a fire fighter at 21 year's of age.....that in itself is something to be proud of....it's usually the dream job for lots of young boys growing up.....on the other hand no point in you sticking at it if you don't feel it is the career for you.....why not enquire from your employers to see if there is some other type of career that you could train for that might not necessarily involve fire fighting...lots of other areas I am sure.....they might even help you out with expenses involved in re-training etc....very difficult for a fella of your young age to find another job which would pay as much as you are now earning even if you think it is not a well enough paid job for you.......just to say....be careful in your decisions.....best of luck.....
yeah keep the job but maybe go to some night classes and get a degree or diploma that will give an opportunity to move on to something better for me education is the route
What exactly is your current job? (job duties, hours, stressors...yada yada..I looked at your profile and am unclear.
You are 21. There are programs of training available to you. There are also several training programs for First Nation folks. Have you looked into any of them?
I've had jobs that stressed me out. I changed careers at age 30, and again at 40. Though, as someone already mentioned... There's no guarantees....
What I do know...lol is that I ended up having serious health issues due to keeping a job that was too stressful because I needed an income to pay the bills.
Start be seriously reflecting on your dreams....
whadda ya wanna be when you grow up? ...if you could be anything....your choice. it's critical to follow your dreams.
ps you can change your mind or your dreams. it won't be a final choice....just something to get you moving in the direction that's right for you
. In the UK you would not get a job until you find something you like and pays top money. On advertising for people 18-22 we offered £1,000 per moth live-in and we told by a 17 year old that he was 18 in 4 months but he thought £1,000 a month was low wages.

I do not like the automatic slagging of our young people having trained Craft and Student Apprentices to C & G and Degree level and as a qualified Invigilator.
The fact is that the National average wage here in the UK is quoted as GBP27,000 per year. Many of us including Highly skilled trades people and Pensioners receive even less then 50% (GBP12,500) and it is less than in Germany.
I note that you are a CEO, fail to state your trade qualification (if any) or the conditions of employment (hours per week, type of work offered, skilled of semi-skilled, Sick Pay, Holiday pay) you offer.
SO 1. Is that £1000 - Gross or Net? 2. How many hours per week ? Normally estimated 40 hr week 8hrs x 5days
Current rates - Hourly - for the National Living Wage and the National Minimum Wage from 1 April 2016. Year 25 and over £7.20 21 to 24 £6.70 18 to 20 £5.30 Under 18 Apprentice April 2016 (current rate) 3.87 - £3.30
I note you make it difficult to calculate by saying 18-22 so taking the age 21 - 18 figure average of £6.25 per hour and a 40 hour week he or she gets £6.25 per hour.
Thus 40 x 6.25 = 250 P/W so your 1000 if Gross, based on a 4 week month is the minimum. 12000 per year in round figures.
Little wonder then that any skilled trainee of mine, just out of their time would think it is too low outside the UK !!

We never asked for Doctors Mike, no trainee Tank engine fitters, no Pilots, not even a Colonel, certainly not a Field Marshall.
We required young people to speak English without skills. you omitted that the job was "Live-In", their own room with full facilities.
What l posted was truth as it happened, we asked first for advice before placing the ads. the majority of young kids are unemployable and the rest are fit for nothing. Proof that there is no one unemployed is that the one reply was the only one.
If you think that a 17 year old that knows nothing is worth more than a £1,000 live in then you have lost any respect l had for you.

Brenden_Flett: A question
Flesh out your plans, save some money, and find some work in or around what you wanna do in future. Try to keep working at anything especially if you don't yet have 5 years service on your CV.

1. You did NOT state the whole truth and had you done so 2. I agree with the last part. NO - not worth any effort.

It is illegal in the UK to advertise age specific jobs.

You and I know that, but many ex-pat CEO's with no specified qualification may be unaware of our laws especially if the company employs a creative accountancy department and manager, and uses offshore and numbered Swiss Bank accounts to "avoid" tax

Or a 57 year old man wanting live-in 17 year olds, who earns $150,000 and pays £1000 for inexperienced "work"!!!
