RE: Where Are We?

Mandelbrot sets. Mathematical analogy to Rap "music". Has a certain draw for some, but little to explain such dilemmas of existence/reality. Aa.

RE: Perfect Match

My profile scares most run of the mill ladies away. Great system as life is short. Aa.

RE: The age old question ... Dogs or Cats?

Who doesn't just love cats? Taste just like chicken. R.

RE: Be relation with married man

Sounds like you have a number of things to work on, beginning with growing up, and getting a little more self esteem. Sounds a bit harsh, but it's true, darling. R.

RE: Would Donald Trump make a good President

Oobie doobie, my friend. Please don't be like Alec Baldwin and so many other lefties who said the same about Reagan, Bush and Bush. You may soon tire of that heaven on earth, Bolivia, and hopefully you'll make the move whole hog, and renounce the US citizenship. Many Bolivianistas will think you are nuts, but I support your move. Aa.

Yes, quite. And who doesn't simply adore the little critters? Why with a little olive oil and garlic, they taste just like chicken. Ask our C-i-C. ;-))

RE: Germany suffers the result of Angela Merkel's decision

Germany has reasons to feel guilty. But that doesn't mean it should save the world. Uncontrolled illegal immigration can easily become an endless source of really inappropriate new folks. Controlled immigration always had the goal of taking in people with skills that benefit the host country. Every one wins. But people trying to enter uninvited, as today in the EU and for some time now on the US southern border, all are worse off. And it tends to breed contempt and resentment among all concerned. We're seeing it now. To immigrate, people should visit the embassy, file the paperwork, and wait, just like years ago.

RE: whats up all you mainers lol

Yes, a forum for Mainers. Could we discourage the morbidly obese, smokers, coffee brandy sippers, spandex wearers, and other such typical Mainers from joining?

RE: Falling In Love Online

Been looking on line for some time. Very selective whom I meet, after lots of emails and perhaps some videoskype action. Several women seem to have gotten quite attached before meeting, and some afterwards. Early on in the process I developed fairly strong feelings for one German lady (love speaking and hearing the language), and we met, but I backed out. It really was helpful and encouraging to know that I'm still capable of these strong feelings, even if one must keep one's wits in check whenever they arise. Alas, the ladies with feelings for me were pretty flaky in important ways. There's good flaky, and not so good flaky. Onward, through the fog.

RE: Favourite type of dog

Our support of the Belgian and French people. Dogs. Millennia of coevolution (much by artificial selection) with us, and still going. I've had rescue/adopted Goldens most of my life. Was blessed with young full breed adoptees each time. Among the best dogs. When our last, Rainbow, left us a couple years ago at age 13 years via a gentle death at home surrounded by his humans, we waited the usual period to grieve, before looking for another pup. Dog owners in our community actually formed a committee and found Bravo for us, seeing our grief. Came home and found a note in the mailbox, saying they too miss Rainbow, and know we want another Golden, but if we might consider a GSD, they know of a nice 6 month old one whose family no longer can keep him. Well, I used to think all breeds are were basically the same, and sure, there are individual differences with each dog. When I used to hear about how smart poodles and GSD's are, I used to doubt it. Don't get me wrong, the Goldens weren't at all dumb, but this guy seems to learn quite quickly. Other's impressions? Idea for another Dog forum----how does neutering dogs change them, if at all? Bravo just got his surgery, and it's too soon to see differences. Woof more-bite less!

Maybe it's long since time to get ooot of Canada, eh?

RE: GERMANY,,, WHERE ARE WE NOW ?

Babettefr, who never missed a brioche/baguette, waxes critical of Germany and the draw of illegal immigrants, possibly to assuage the recent hurts from recent teutonic warlike behaviors in Europe, but surely also to fill factory jobs for a dying population. Her concern seems in part due to a one sided policy and lack of consultation with other EU members, but also of concerns over spreading islamofascism. In this latter regard, we must mention the role of La France. France extended it's initial defeats in both recent European world wars (until the USA rescued her, as in vietnam), to the loss of former brutal and exploitive colonial adventures, such as in Indochina and Algeria (former "Department"). Such misadventures led to there now being the largest European population of Muslims in La France herself. Lots of poor social policies now leave plenty of unemployed angry young islamofascists in La France, with plenty of potential for serious mischief, as we saw most recently in the Charlie Hebdo afffair. France has a history of criticizing others for the things she does herself. N'est pas, demoiselle?

RE: Rating... Internet dating and making friends

Not a total waste of time. But one must set strict parameters of whom to spend time talking with, much more so for a meeting. Anecdotally, I find the following breakdown of my interactions on these sites. Scammers, about 10%. Gold diggers, 30%. Addicts, mostly alcohol, perhaps 15%. Persons with serious untreated mental health issues, 20%. You have to eliminate these (unless you are attracted to same), and focus on the remaining one quarter. I find many self eliminate, after a few emails back and forth. I end it with the rest gently, trying not to cause further hurt in so many already suffering folks. Of the 25%, only a handful meet my interests in terms of looks, education, class, groundedness and situation (kids, smoking, distance, rebound issues, etc.). So it's a sight better than the alternatives to meeting people, but hardly a cake walk. I am learning a good deal, though, about myself and other geographic locations, as well, especially from foreign ladies. R.

RE: the word "Dear"

Yes, dearies, I agree with most posts here about the word "dear", esp. when appearing in a cold request for personal email and other info. But like most things in life, perspective is important. Some of my female CS and other friends routinely use the word with me, and I believe it's mostly a function of their use of English, and meant to endear. And culturally, these educated ladies are from disparate places, such as Norway, Turkey and Chile, to name a few. Treat the Nigerian/CIS scammers like the scum they are, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. All you dears. Rob.

RE: How Many Times can Someone Fall in Love?

inaresting. We use this term in English, but in other languages, it's much less a passive act. One becomes in love with another. But there does seem to be a range of how folks end up in love, and for many, it's almost an hypnotic process. I think I've done it both ways. Active is far better. People work at it, as they get to know each other more, and see the true human qualities of each other, no matter the circumstances. At some point, the lights go on, and one says---she (he) really is special, I'd best think about this one seriously. The worst is the love at first sight. Oh, sure it happens, and rarely can lead to a lasting romance. But mostly it seems to be extreme infatuation practiced by the weak and lonely. Roberto.

RE: Smoking

Sorry Scubadiva lives where confiscatory taxation makes the supposedly less toxic smokes so expensive. But it seems true that commercial popular brands do contain much else than tobacco, which as a pure plant product, doesn't seem to have much that's exceptionally toxic when ingested or smoked. Of course, depending on how the leaves are cultivated, there could be all sorts of agricultural chemicals attached, even before things are added at the cigarette factories. At our local food coop we sell a brand that is supposed to be organic, but there's a movement to take these off the inventory list, principally by a small group of unhappy people with too much time on their hands. Of course, who knows how chemically free products listed as "organic" really are? Anyway, anyone who still smokes cigarettes of any sort would be well advised to seriously consider trying to quit. And the evidence seems to supports repeated tries at giving up the addiction-as the number of tries increases, so climbs the success rate. Aaltarboy.
