This "loch" is quite vast and touches 3 towns...Bothwell,Hamilton and Motherwell...At the Bothwell end its quite historic, for there are the remains of Roman Baths...and a Roman bridge...Below are some pictures of these....wow wine

Earlier I mentioned a secret.....Here it is!!

In 1884 there was a village called Bothwellhaugh..It was a mining village, with a thriving colliery, and 500 houses to accomodate the miner's and their families.
...As times changed, and the need for coal lessened, and young people moved away...and the village became ghost town. With merely handful of residents left. The council wondered how best to clear the land.....Many proposals were brought forward...but the one acted upon, was to flood the village...As it sat in downhill hollow...
...Today that area is Strathclyde "Loch"..So you see underneath all that water there lies an intact mining village. If you are a diver you may go down and visit a village of the past....which will lie there for eternity......They call it "The Drowned Village"....

BOTHWELLHAUGH.....

I love the black and white photos of the town. Am I to understand that the town is under the water where the man is fishing? If so, how did all that water get there? Those winter snows scenes are to die for.....every woman's fantasy of romance.. ho hum.. conversing
freebyrdflying
Yes,the village of Bothwellhaugh is under the "loch"..I put that in inverted commas,as it's a man made loch...Well,I don't know how they done it...I expect, just used some very large hose pipes...It's a lotta water!!..... dunno confused ....applause wow yay

Thats what you call a real clean up, but I think it is sad, the history of a way of life gone..... It looks nice but children can never go and see whear they came from.... I like to bring my children to see whear my family came from to visit the graves moping
