Favorite smells...

Come on, we all have smells we love and hate...here are my top nine loves with a trump card...In no particular order...
1

The London underground...(circa 1963.)

One of only a couple of smells i remember from my very early childhood, the london underground had a smell of burning electricty and dust, a strange smell but a pleasant one none the less, it has long since given way to a heady mix of perfumes, cologne,s and jayes floor wash...ah, what a shame....
2

Perfumes...His and Hers...

Well, hers first...hands down favourite has to be "Armani Gio" for women...nothing i have smelt before or since has come even remotely close...Ladies, i swear, you could walk into a room wearing nothing but a [little black] bin liner and a dab of Gio and men from teens to geriactric would be falling over one another to ask you for the next dance...i would call it "sex in a bottle"......And for him...sorry guys, your not going to be very impressed but its your grandads favourite, and mine too..."Old spice"...classic and unforgivably manly...and while im about it, a guilty mention to "Blue stratos", the young pretender to the Old spice throne...
3

Cars...Rover P5...

Once upon a time in england we made cars, many were basic, a fair few were improved versions of the basic and then there were Rovers...the classic Rover P5 was a monster of a car, in its final version the 3.5 coupe, all the pieces had come together...a car fitted out with all leather seating, full wood dash and door trimmings and quality carpeting throughout, it had the smell of a gentlemans club in knightsbridge, the only things missing would be a pimms, a castella and perhaps a young man in a red buttoned blazer to to take your lunch order...
4

Indian food...Portsmouth...

Short and sweet this one...Chicken Tandoori, sizzeling on a skillet with fried onions...this is as good as it gets with your clothes on...
5

Coffee and Books...

Books are good, indeed there food for the mind you might say...but they get just a tiny bit better when said bookshop has a coffee shop attached to it...a certain book shop in my home town of Ennis had the good sence to have attached to it a coffee shop which will remain nameless...suffice to say i am now well read and have a bit of a problem getting to sleep at nights...my thanks to the brave explorers of old who toiled through the foul weather and stormy seas to bring us back that most beloved of beans...gentlemen,i salute you all...
6

Tarmaccam...

My ideal holiday...a deckchair, a bottle of pepsi max, a good book and six month resurfacing project on the A406 north circular ring road...bring it on...
7

Babies and Puppies...

That newborn baby smell, unforgettable....and puppies, not forgetting puppy breath...shame it doesnt last...
8

Summer rain...

Ordinary rain is no fun, if i want to get wet, ill take a shower or soak in a nice radox [theres another great smell] bath...HOWEVER, on a real scorcher of a summer day, nothing refreshes the olfactory sences like rain on parched grass...just divine...otherwise, rain can "sod off"...
9

Incense sticks...

There are more incense stick fragerances's than you can, well, shake a stick at...after years of assorted attempts at finding the "holy grail" of incense stick, a trip to Camden lock indoor market provided that "payday"...wether or not the little stall is still there i dont know, but the smell of "Rasaleela" hung thickly in the air...sweet and intoxicating, thank goodness we can get it in Ireland...
10

Now YOU...

Sure, its a top ten, and ive only put nine in...but there are always "also ran,s" that evoke pleasant memories...petrol, airfix glue [carefull with that one!!] plastercine, crayons, the perfume/cologne your girlfriend/boyfriend wore on that first date, your mums cooking of the sunday roast [ or dads if its a progressive household], a favourite washing powder, etc etc...god, the list could outrun itself...but what am i missing...what is the number ten on my list...you've seen what lights my touch paper, YOU tell me....

Well, there you have it...the way to a mans heart is through his nasal cavity...feel free to share your favourite smells and those "guilty pleasures" you only admit to complete strangers about liking...LZ...
