These are 10 things on what not to do when chatting with people.
I think all of us has been guilty of a few of these at times.

Not listening
Learn to listen to what people actually are saying.Don't just wait eagerly for your turn to talk.

Don't make them feel like its an interrogation

That awkward silence,coming from being nervous or not knowing exactly why

Everyone involved in a conversation should get a turn,don't interrupt,hijack their story.Find a balance between listening and talking.

avoid arguing and having to be right about every topic.

Example:talking about bad health,or how your ex's did you wrong

Be prepared to drop a subject when you see people losing interest(.focus on the positive stuff,don't whine,show genuine interest)

Open up and say what you think and share how you feel

You might feel that you don't have much to contribute to a conversation,but try anyway...really listen,be interested,ask questions
