4 Ways To Make The New Year Your Best Ever

4 Ways To Make The New Year Your Best Ever

No matter what happened last year or for the past five years, you can have your best year ever this new year. There is nothing stopping you from creating the life you've always dreamed of. It doesn't matter if your goals are small or large. You can decide to take them on this year and finally succeed. Here are four ways you can make the new year your best ever.

1. Set new goals

Do you set the exact same goals every year because you can never seem to achieve them? After a while those goals are going to be less exciting and you'll stop even trying to achieve them, even if you write them down. This time when you sit down to write your goals for the new year, leave off the goals you haven't managed to cross off your list in a few years. If your goal has been to lose 20 pounds, try setting a goal of training for and running a 5K. It's more specific, and it might excite you more than your previous goal. If you're not ready to give up the goals you haven't achieved, try wording them differently.

2. Don't wait until the new year to begin

If you have your goals set in November or December, don't wait until January to get started on them. It never hurts to get a head start on the new year. Starting early may even help you succeed, because it takes time to built new habits. If your goal for the new year is to eat healthy, it might seem silly to begin in December, but it's a good time to start because you'll be building better habits at the hardest time of year. When January hits, you won't find it as difficult to say no to a second slice of pie.

3. Eliminate things that didn't work for you last year

Did taking on too many volunteer jobs leave you overwhelmed and exhausted? You might have a passion for helping others, but you can only do so much; it's important to decide what you can handle and what you can't. Instead of three volunteer jobs, maybe this year you just devote yourself to one. If you did anything that made you unhappy, tired, or feeling used, it's important to say "no" to those things in the new year, to ensure that it will be a better year for you.

4. Determine if a goal is really yours

Many people set goals because of other people's expectations. Have you been told all your life that you should own a home? Are friends or family members constantly asking you when you're going to buy a home, settle down, and have children? It's easy for these things to be put on your goal list, even if you don't necessarily want them. It's important to determine whose goals you are going after. Just because ideas have been drilled into you since a young age doesn't mean you need to live by them. If you decide a goal isn't really yours, cross it out and replace it with something you do want. Don't be afraid of disappointing others. Your new year will be much better when you stop trying to make everyone else happy.

You can have your best year ever by focusing on exactly what you want to achieve and ditching the goals that don't work for you anymore. Following the four tips above can help you improve your chances of having a successful new year.
