10 Weird Trends of 2017

10 Weird Trends of 2017

The year 2017 brought some strange trends, especially when it comes to beauty, fashion and interior design. Here are 10 of the strangest trends. Which ones have you embraced? And which do you think will stay in the spotlight another year?

Colorful Hair

Blonde, brunette and redhead aren't even close to your only options when it comes to hair color, and bright colors no longer indicate rebellion.

Even people who tend to be more traditional are looking into hair color that is not quite natural. Is your grandmother rocking a purple streak? Does your baby sister sport blue ombre highlights?

Hair color is for everyone, and it's getting more creative each day. You'll even start to see hair that is one color on top and a different shade, or shades, underneath.

Unicorn Universe

The mythical creature that has been a favorite of pre-teen girls for decades is now everywhere. Unicorns first became a popular motif on clothing, and now you can find them on everything from toasters to phone cases to sneakers.

You'll also see unicorn-inspired décor that might not feature a unicorn itself but will include plenty of glitter, sparkle and bright colors.

People everywhere are sporting hairstyles inspired by unicorns, eating cakes shaped like unicorns and even dressing up as unicorns.

Pumped up Lips with Liner

Today's beauty enthusiasts are doing more with lips than ever before. Pumped up, swollen looking lips, have been in style for several years, but those puffy lips have recently been updated.

Whether you've paid for a professional lip plumper or are using a pumping product you bought at the store, the current trend is to finish your lips with a dark lip-liner all around the edges. This brings even more focus to your over-sized lips.

To properly rock this trend you wear your lip-liner over your lipstick, not under it.

Round Furniture

Forget the traditional rectangle. Today's stylish furniture is round, or at least oval. Modern sofas are curved on the top and outside. Coffee tables and beds are perfect circles.

Most of these styles include overstuffed cushions. Tables may be nothing more than a pouf with a round piece of wood or plastic on top.

Accent these pieces with round lights dropping down from the ceiling and large, round rugs.

Holographic Nails

The trendiest colors in makeup are shimmering metallic choices. Take this a step further with holographic nails.

Get the shiny, multi-dimensional look by applying holographic powder to a traditional manicure. People pay thousands of dollars for the treatment in nail salons, but you can do it yourself with a little practice.

Lightbulb Cups

Visit a trendy bar and you might just find yourself being a served a drink in a lightbulb.

It's not a real lightbulb, of course, but a glass shaped like one complete with a piece that looks like it can be screwed into a socket.

These cups feel great in your hands, but they aren't always sturdy on a table. Some of them even light up, making them look very cool in a dark club.

Wacky Eyebrows

Shaping your eyebrows is a common beauty practice, but some stylists are actually creating designs in that hair.

All kinds of crazy things are being done with eyebrows right now from shaping them into squiggles, using effects that make them look braided and even gluing pom-poms and glitter onto them.

Tacos

Somehow tacos recently went from being a delicious dinner option to a way of life. Tacos are more than just food. You'll see them on all kinds of merchandise and décor. You'll see people wearing t-shirts proclaiming a love of tacos, and you'll find graphic art featuring cute animals stuffed into taco shells.

Lollipop Lips

Remember when you were a kid and you'd run a lollipop over your lips so you could giggle at the messy color it left behind?

Well, that's a trend now.

Lollipop lips use makeup to bring shiny, sticky looking candy color to your lips. The color should also smudge onto some of your face, giving the impression that you just rubbed a lollipop all over your mouth.

Voice Commands

We're lucky enough to live in a world where technology makes life easier in all kinds of ways. And now you don't just program your technology or even push a button. Instead, you talk to it.

Many technological items will respond to voice commands. Others can be connected to a special box that sits in your home waiting for you to tell it what to do. Get your house cleaned, your meals cooked at even the lights in your house turned off and on simply by speaking your desires out loud.

Of course, voice command programs aren't perfect, so it's not unusual to find yourself shouting at a little black box that usually misunderstands your directions. But at least you don't have to push any buttons.

Were you into any of these 10 wacky trends of 2017? Enjoy your favorites because you never know what another year will bring.
