4 Ways to Get Yourself Motivated

Lack of motivation is one of the common reasons behind unfinished projects, missed deadlines, wasted opportunities, and yes, even the pile of unwashed dishes in the sink and freshly laundered clothes that have been waiting for more than a week to get folded. Getting yourself motivated to do certain tasks can be challenging, especially if you find the task unappealing or unworthy of your efforts. However, you also have to realize that while some things are not necessarily your cup of tea, you still have to do them because they're part of your responsibilities. Whenever you're experiencing problems regarding the lack of motivation, keep in mind that there's always something you can do that can inspire and encourage you to get going and finish whatever task you have at hand. Here are 4 ways to get yourself motivated:

1. Avoid Procrastinating

It can be very tempting to put something off for another day or another week in favor of idling around and just hanging out at home or with friends. But when you think about it, what do you really accomplish with procrastination? Absolutely nothing. Instead, precious time is wasted while the work still sits there waiting to be done.

2. Make the Effort

Nobody said life's going to be easy. If you want to accomplish anything good for yourself, you'll have to make the effort because no one is going to knock on your door to hand you a platter of success, when all you do is relax and take it easy all the time. In addition, try to challenge yourself a little bit more everyday. If a particular task starts to become too easy, give yourself a shorter deadline next time or try to accomplish more than you usually do in the same amount of time. You may not be getting any material rewards out of it but the mere fact that you're constantly pushing yourself will keep you motivated and inspired.

3. Get Started

For people with a problem motivating themselves, getting started is probably the most difficult part of the job. The reason for this is that with every task you need to perform, a part of your brain unwittingly tries to talk you out of it. If you don't have enough motivation, you'll end up listening to this part of your brain. But once you manage to pull yourself up and get started on the work, it will be much easier to keep going until the task is accomplished.

4. Visualize the Completed Task

Create a vision in your mind of what it will be like once the task is finished. Will you still be feeling lazy and lethargic? Or will you be proud of the work you've accomplished? For a lot of people, having a vision of the completed task is enough motivation to get them going until the vision becomes reality.

The above mentioned methods have been used by millions of people over the years to conquer their lack of motivation. However, the most important thing to remember is that true motivation can only come from within you. No matter how many motivational techniques you try or how many inspirational seminars you attend, it will still be up to you to exert the effort and to finally get yourself going.
