How to Banish Stress from Your Life: Instantly and Forever

How to Banish Stress from Your Life Instantly and Forever

It is no secret that mental stress is an integral part of modern existence. It is also the biggest trigger for a whole host of physical ailments. Stress can be job-related, domestic, environmental, or derived from relationships. Sometimes you may be stressed with the sheer number of things you have to cope with in your day-to-day life.

If you cannot get to sleep easily, have joint pains and aches, are irritated and snappy most of the time, simply feel weak and exhausted, or fall easy prey to small infections, it is time to check on your stress levels. Clearly, being stressed is not a pleasant affair.

As you age, it becomes more and more difficult to dissociate stress from your life without making a significant and deliberate effort. A few recommended techniques to reduce stress might help you in your search for peace and relaxation:

Smile for 90 seconds: The positive effect of smiling and laughter is seriously under-estimated in modern societies. If you can hold a smile and feel happy for at least this short span of time each morning, your body would relax, and prevent stress-related disorders.

Take a Deep Breath: Breathing rhythms affect how we feel about ourselves and our health. When we are stressed our breathing patterns get uneven. If we deliberately decide to regulate our breathing, taking deep, even breaths at regular intervals, our system relaxes and evades stress.

Mini Self-Massage: When stressed during a particular event or activity, get rid of stress by giving yourself a mini massage. Rubbing the palms and the soles of feet and massaging your temple and neck would provide necessary relief when you are working long hours.

Relax the Jaw: When you are under stress you tend to clench your jaws, which may give you back aches and headaches. The best way to relax your jaw is to open your mouth as wide as possible for about 30 seconds, and then try this again while using your hand to close your mouth. When your mouth opens while trying to resist the closing pressure of your hand, it will learn to relax even in times of stress. Repeat this exercise several times a day.

De-clutter Your Space: One of the easiest ways to get that "weight-off-my-shoulder" feeling is to de-clutter your space, both mental and physical. If you remove the physical clutter from everywhere around you, from your wardrobe to your basement, you will immediately feel a difference. When you let go of your mental clutter in the form of stored anger, jealousy and resentment, you will feel perceptibly lighter. Keep your inner and outer space clutter-free for a serene existence.

Stop and Daydream: For a stress-free life despite a busy schedule it is vital that you find some time for yourself. This is when you recharge by attending to your own thoughts, so you can let your imagination roam free, learn to let go of the emotions that cause you distress, and choose the ones that bring you peace instead. Not only that, the pace of your life matters: take the time for a slow walk, or eat slowly, with enjoyment, and watch stress melt away.

The most important part of the stress-relief process is knowing that you are stressed, and that you should be doing something to get rid of it. Once you know that, some of techniques discussed here are sure to help, if you are diligent in pursuing them. Instant stress relief is not a myth, it just needs a lot of practice.
