Ten Tips for Your Personal Grooming Schedule

Ten Tips for Your Personal Grooming Schedule

Some people never even think of having a personal grooming schedule. They just muddle through and may seem to get by pretty well. They are usually likeable people so we put up with their scattiness and never expect them to turn up on time.

For the rest of us a personal grooming schedule is important for a number of reasons. If we are well groomed, we look good. If we look good, we feel good. If we feel good, we feel confident. If we feel confident, it shows, and we get on better in both our professional and social lives.

Personal grooming takes up time so setting a schedule for it makes sense. It means you know what time to set your alarm every morning. You know exactly what you will do before you leave your house or go into your home office. Because you know how long it will all take, you can start your day at a comfortable pace and be stress free.

Both men and women need to think about their personal grooming, but there is no doubt that women have more activities to fit into their schedule. Some, but certainly not all, of the following tips will apply just to busy females.

  1. Allow your schedule to develop and change it until it fits with your life and you are comfortable with it. When aspects of your life change, you may need to change the schedule again. Just make sure everything still gets fitted in somewhere.
  2. When bedtime comes, are you just longing to snuggle into the sheets as quickly as possible. If so, keep your night-time routine as short as you can. You don't have to bath or shower then if you'd rather do it in the morning. Always brush your teeth, and floss if it suits you to do it then. Always remove make-up. Nowadays you can buy wipes that will take all of it away in no time.
  3. If you really can't be bothered with flossing at night, making time every morning, or even every other morning, is better than not at all or just occasionally when you feel like it.
  4. How often do you wash your hair? Remember to schedule time for drying and styling it.
  5. Decide when to paint your nails, shave your legs, thin your eyebrows, clean shoes, clean spectacles.
  6. Keep notes in your diary of when you will need your next appointment with the dentist, optician, hairdresser, and beautician.
  7. If you work at home, try to set a routine where you are fully dressed and ready for the world by 9 am, including make-up if you wear it. You'll feel so much better when there's a knock on the door, and you'll be able just to put on a coat and pick up your keys when you need to go out for some air, post the mail or pick up supplies.
  8. Washing and ironing clothes is another aspect of personal grooming that should be factored in, as well as organizing dry cleaning and mending.
  9. Have a system for finding what to wear quickly. It could just be hanging items for different color schemes in a particular order in your closet.
  10. A more enjoyable aspect is replacing clothes by shopping. Having a budget for this makes it even more enjoyable. Knowing that you have a certain amount of dollars to spend on something nice to wear in two months time, gives you something to look forward to even when times are difficult and money is tight.

You may be able to think of other things you'd find easier if you put them into a routine. A personal grooming schedule can include whatever you like. It is certainly about more than just taking a shower and using a deodorant.
