A tattoo is a beautiful way of expressing individuality in a permanent way. In the past, tattoos were the domain of sailors, criminals and other members of the fringe of society. However, more and more people have chosen to decorate themselves in a tasteful manner that appeals to them, and people from all demographics sport ink. Society is trending toward widespread acceptance of individuals with tattoos, so the time has never been better to get inked!
Tattoo shops have a variety of designs on the wall that they can "copy and paste" onto your body, called "flash." There is a good chance you will recognize flash designs, because many people seeking a tattoo will pick a design right off of the wall. If you are unsure as to what you are looking for, start with a flash design, and ask the artist to develop it into something unique that represents something important to you.
A tattoo is permanent. Some people get inked on impulse, resulting in an unwanted tattoo. However, impulse ink can be a treasured part of the artwork decorating your body. If you see something and it speaks to you, get it! But you need to ask yourself this: will I love this ten years from now? How about fifty? Will it still look fantastic on this part of my anatomy? If you can answer yes to those questions, you are ready for a tattoo!
Another aspect you need to consider before becoming decorated is your pain tolerance. You are going to have an artist drawing on your skin with a tool that penetrates your skin rapidly, depositing ink underneath your skin. It will hurt more on top of the bone, and hurt less in areas of thicker flesh. However, everyone is different, and if you are afraid of the pain, it is best to start with a small tattoo to see if you can handle the sensation. It often only hurts for the first few minutes. Then, your adrenaline kicks in and it is tolerable, even relaxing!
Getting a tattoo is a wonderful thing, but not a decision to be taken lightly. If you are comfortable with a design and feel that it would create a lovely addition to your body, go for it! Your body is a temple, so why not decorate it?

The truth be told!
For your information tattoos are an expression of a persons own feelings.
I have several, all of which were thought out prior to being done.
Whilst I don't believe tattoos necessarily have to have to have a meaning, and can be just an appreciation of art, most of mine have personal meanings which I don't feel I have to explain to anyone.
I am quite well educated and literate and resent the fact you think anyone with tattoos isn't but then that's just your ignorance of the subject isn't it???
Glad your comments are as dated as your opinion
FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT GETTING INKED
do your homework ask around on who the best tattoo place is and are they clean and are they experienced. and yes the most important is MAKE SURE THE TATTOO YOU WANT IS THE ONE YOU WANT FOREVER because once the tattoo is on you its on you to stay so again MAKE SURE THE TATTOO YOU WANT OR INTERESTED IN YOUR 100% SURE OF merry christmas to everyone tattood or not and may 2018 be much better then this year
Not only in my eyes do tattoos look grubby and dirty but it can not be a mere coincidence that they are more prevalent in certain sections of the community. Am I saying that everyone with a tattoo is a criminal, a pirate, or lives the gutter, no of course not. What I am saying is that every time I see someone with a tattoo I question their intelligence.
When I was 14 I had posters on my bedroom wall of David Bowie, Roy Wood, and Alice Cooper. When I was in my 20's I decorated my lounge with glossy photos in frames of Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, Ginger Rogers, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. Over the following years various artworks have held pride of place on the interior walls of my house, and right now I have Desert Orchid, The Queen, and a couple of large mirrors.
Who in their right mind would want to look at the same decoration, however good, day, after day, after day.
Like clothes, decorations needs changing, on a regular basis.
I fully realise that I have just insulted an increasingly large section of the population, but in my defence, when I see someone with a tattoo the furthest thing from my mind is that they actually have the ability to read.
Maybe someone can narrate my comments to them.
I have over 20 tats and still adding. I must say, when I first thought about getting the first one, I thought about it for a year. I visited shops to see if they were clean, and used autoclave's. Very important to make sure the shops are using proper sterilization techniques. Ask questions at the shop you are considering going to. Ask any friends that are tattooed, where they went, and would they recommend. Don't be in a hurry and rush into the first shop you see. People have caught Hepatitis and other diseases from being inked. In many states nowadays shops must be licensed. If this is true where you live, make sure their licenses are posted in the open. If you see people with tats ask them where they went and who did their tat's; and would they go back to that person. Arm yourself with lots of knowledge before getting one. As far as what to get, you have many options for getting ideas. The flash at the shop, tattoo magazines, and the internet. Plus the artist can draw something up according to what you have in mind. Enjoy!
