4 Signs Your Boyfriend Is Financially Immature

Many people would like to think that life shouldn't revolve around money, but unfortunately money makes all the difference in life. People who save and are smart with their money will be better off than the people who spend recklessly and end up in debt with no saving and no assets. This article outlines 4 signs that your boyfriend is financially immature.

1. He asks to borrow money from you until his next pay check

If your boyfriend is asking you for money, you need to wonder where his money is going. Does he spend his entire pay check on fun stuff in two days and then have nothing left to pay bills with? Or does he have so many bills that he's living pay check to pay check? Whether you decide to loan him money or not is your choice, but having to lend him money means he has to change something instead of relying on you.

2. He spends recklessly on his credit card

It might seem like fun to spend a ton of money right now and charge it all, but one day he's going to have to pay it off. If he's not already paying off his bill every month, he is overspending and that's not good news for the future. Not only is he spending money on things that probably don't matter right now, he's also leaving himself with less money for the future when actually needs it. Bad money habits today can have consequences for tomorrow.

3. He shrugs about his debt

If your boyfriend is already in debt and doesn't seem to care, this is a very bad sign. If he doesn't care now, he will have little trouble spending even more money and avoiding paying off the debt he incurs. He might even talk about filing for bankruptcy one day so that he never has to pay back all the money he spent. A man that is financially immature will think that he's quite clever, when in reality he's painting himself into a corner that it'll take years to get out of.

4. He has no savings or emergency fund

This is something that everyone at any income level should have. If he'd rather spend his money on eating out every day, he is financially immature. Everyone needs an emergency fund at the very least. If your boyfriend loses his job and can't work for a number of months, he will have nothing to support himself with.

When you're dating someone it might not seem like a big deal how they deal with their own money, but it's important to think about the future. You can't simply assume that someone will change when they have to. It's not that easy, and neither is getting out of debt!
