3 Signs You Have A Toxic Friend

We have all dealt with a toxic friend at some point in our lives. The most important thing is to be able to stop and remove these people from our lives as soon as possible. You cannot change a toxic person no matter how awesome you are. This article outlines 3 signs that you have a toxic friend.

1. You're exhausted after talking to her

A toxic friend is often full of drama. She might complain about how much she dislikes drama, but that doesn't stop her from talking about it. It's exhausting to not only listen to someone else's drama constantly, but to also be part of the conversation. She might ask for advice about what's happening in her life, and you gladly help her out, but she never takes the advice. As much as she complains about hating the drama in her life, she's not ready to let go. If talking to your friend is exhausting, stop talking to her. You have better things to do with your time. You know she isn't going to let the drama go anytime soon.

2. Your talks are always focussed on her

This can go hand-in-hand with someone who enjoys drama in their life. When someone has lots of drama to talk about, they tend to get all of the attention. When the attention is not on them, they will either shift the conversation back to them as quickly as possibly or leave the conversation entirely. Everyone has known someone like that and we often give them the benefit of the doubt. Don't be fooled though. People like this know exactly what they are doing. They want to be the centre of attention and if they can't be, they disappear. Don't waste your time on a friend like this. If she only wants to talk about herself, let her find someone else to do it with.

3. She tries to sabotage your goals

You've probably met a friend like this before. She is a friend who doesn't encourage your dreams and goals. If you are trying to eat healthy and lose some weight, she will suggest that the two of you eat fast food or order a pizza. She'll say that one time won't make a difference, but she will suggest these kinds of meals every time you get together. When you suggest something else, she quickly shoots your idea down. You might be trying to switch careers or go back to school and she will try to talk you out of it. Some people don't like it when people close to them start improving themselves, so they do whatever they can think of to hold them back. You might not want to believe that your friend would do such a thing, but it happens.

Toxic friends do nothing but drain your energy and waste your time. If you have a toxic friend, don't be afraid to cut ties today. You might feel bad for a day, but after that, you'll realize how much more peaceful your life is.
