Official Languages

I live in a country with 11 official language. (South Affrica, one can only but love it....love )One would expect that I should at least be able to greet in a few of those 11 official languagesuh oh

doh As luck would have it, I appear to be "linguistically challenged" blues

Communicating in other languages besides my home tongue, tends to leave me all tongue tied blues. . . a blithering idiot mumbling


English: Good Morning / Good Afternoon / Good Evening
Afrikaans: Goeie More / Goeie Middag / Goeie Naand

...that just about covers my skills with regards to languages of a different persuasion:

To Be Friend or Not to Be Friend

Just to touch onto an issue mentioned in another blog, but also something which has bothered me for a while.

The FRIEND REQUEST boxsigh

This has been a problem for me.

I understand that this is an attempt for some to reach out to others, however I find it difficult to accept friends, when they have never made any other attempt to contact medunno
I accepted a few to see if this would change, but allasuh oh I have come to the conclusion, that for most of them, it is merely a statement to post on their profile. "I have ...so many friends... therefore I am Kosher".

I feel bad about ignoring the request, but I would much rather receive mail in my in my inbox or a flower with a nice message than an empty friend requestroll eyes

Perhaps someone has a different view on this issue, something which I haven't considered which might shed a fresh light on this issue?dunno

At this point I no longer even check out my fiend request box

Married for 50 years

What am I letting myself in fordoh

I am calling on everybody to help...PLEASE!!!!

My parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in a just more than 1 weeks time.cheering

They met as teenagers, Mom and her lady friends always seemed to be at the same functions as Dad and his male friends (there weren't too many functions for them to attend in those dayslaugh )
They started dating within the groups. Anyway, at the end of it all, they all ended up marrying within their groupsgrin cool

It is now fifty years later, and out of the 7 couples,
2 couples divorced sad
1 couple deceased (lady 2 yrs ago, man 2weeks ago)sad flower
4 couples still happily marriedbouquet cheering

The remaining couples are still in contact with each otherhug

THIS IS MY DILEMMA:

I am planning a surprise party for them, but am still looking for a few ideas to round things off.

I am planning on about 80 guests(at our home)doh
Some ideas required for the following:

1. Table deco
2. Cream chicken and corn soup - recipe
3. pasta based main meal
4. baked dessert (its winter here)
5. simple to make hors d'ouvres

Please note that in our culture we always supply VERY HEALTHY food portions ...

Women's Day

Today we celebrate Women's Daythumbs up it has even achieved the honours of Public holiday Statuswow

Because of migrant work, where the men employed far away from their homes, many of our rural families had women headed house-holds. this meant that we developed some very STRONG women in south Africa. Women who took on lead roles in different aspects of community life, family life and also in the business world. For me this is enough to celebrate Women's Day.

But on the dark side, women have also been subject to some of the worst astrocities, including mis-use, abuse, rape, disrepect, etc.sad flower

In addition to that women tend to be more prone to diseases such as cancer (specifically breast and cervical) and STD's (specifically AIDS and HIV, in the rural's this is primarily introduced through their husbands who bring it home after working away)frustrated
Because of the need to be SUPER HUMAN (fulfilling all these roles in their lives), these health issues are often neglected until it is too late to do anything about it.

This month of August we are made aware of women, their rights, their strengths, their weaknesses and their health.

I salute ALL women ACROSS the globe.
