Two pennies worth

We are a live-for-the-moment society, we take what we want, anything goes and everyone is up for grabs or they wouldn't be here on CS, yet for some reason we suddenly forget that when we are the wronged party and go on, and on, and on, and ON about it.

Not just scammers, either. Most of the male bloggers on CS, even the creeps, have women they keep as a get-out-of-jail-free card, suddenly remembering her when things are getting too hot. Sorry, darlin', but I did tell you I was serious about someone, remember? Some of the women, ditto.

So, you got taken. Maybe literally. Grow up, write it off to experience, live with the consequences. In your heart of hearts, be grateful you aren't stuck with the charmer.

There, that should have offended nearly everybody but you know what? It's true. Have a lovely evening. rolling on the floor laughing

Death of conversation

I have a love-hate relationship with my smartphone. Well, strictly speaking, a hate-hate relationship. I hate it and it hates me but we are always together, and when I lost it the other night I felt bereft.

So I deliberately left it home today, just to prove I could, and I'm NOT addicted. Peace, perfect peace.

Extra cash for Christmas?

Looking to earn a bit extra for an expensive time of year? Don't get caught the way one woman was. She bought an iPad on eBay, good price, was very pleased with it, and the dealer asked if she would be interested in selling some on commission for him. Ooh yes - she sold 20 pretty briskly, deducted her commission, sent him the money, lovely jubbly.

Then the buyers started saying where is my iPad?

eBay protects its buyers, so they took the whole price back from her paypal account. She cannot, big surprise, get in touch with the dealer, and his bank account has been closed. She has been financially wiped out.

Lots of scams around.

BAD winter coming up?

A few years back Scotland, even my little tropical bit of it, had a really bad winter, with no warning whatsoever. We didn't have enough gritters, we didn't have enough grit, it was pandemonium for a few days and ever since then we've been on yellow alert each and every winter and ever since then the winters have been mild.

I've got a bad feeling about this one, though. And I say that as someone who loves snow and ice and fog and all the sort of extreme winter weather I didn't grow up with. This could be a snorter.

Any advice on what I should be buying / stocking / preparing for, if I'm right? up to and maybe including a dog-sleigh ...

How much longer

I grew up slightly wistful that I wouldn't see the year 2000. It wasn't because I couldn't imagine being that old, I just knew I wouldn't. At 2 minutes to midnight, Dec 31st 1999, hectic street party, someone fired a shot in my direction and I thought oh, riiiight. Then I thought hang on, am I dead or not?

So it has been unexpected borrowed time since then, and the last couple of years have been particularly brilliant. But how much longer before that bullet finally catches up?

I come from a family which roars into the eighties before starting to falter, but that thought horrifies me. I don't want to get old (too late, too late, would be the chorus from most on this website) but when does old actually start?

First signs of losing of the memory or mind? If I have, I haven't noticed. You'd tell me, right? roll eyes

First aches and pains and groaning when you get up (or sit down)? Touch wood, still leaping around like a flea (especially when cramp attacks during that morning stretch, but that's not age, has had me dancing a morning fandango for years) crazy

First time you get a chance to go out with someone hot and think hmm, rather stay home and read a book? grin

I have friends younger than me with arthritis and aching joints, yikes. I have friends 10 years older who insist life gets better and better. Luck of the draw, but I do know I don't want to get old. I long since told my daughter if anything abruptly happens and I'm gone, she must remember I'd have been surprised but ultimately downright relieved.

I just wondered when, apart from having a bloody birthday, one realizes "hell I am OLD". Anyone got an opinion?

It's THAT time of year

Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac, and that shouldn't be taken lightly -- nor should Scorpios. There's no fluff or chatter for Scorpios, these folks concern themselves with beginnings and endings, and are unafraid of either; they also travel in a world that is black and white and has little use for gray. The curiosity of Scorpios is immeasurable.

Fearless Scorpios just keep on going, since they are stubborn and determined to succeed. These folks are intense, passionate and filled with desire. They're also complex and secretive, so don't expect to get much out of them, lest they become suspicious and exit stage left.

They are intuitive, probing and very focused on knowing who's who and what's what. Scorpios can lose their temper (and even become vengeful) when someone gets in their way, so it's best to give them plenty of room. Beware the Scorpio who feels crossed! These folks can turn vindictive in no time flat. Luckily, once Scorpios catch their breath, they will return to their usual determined and loyal (albeit strong-willed) ways.

Extreme sports are right up Scorpio's alley, as is most anything that will test their mettle. They've got to have an adversary, since it makes the game that much more fun. Scorpio's colors? Powerful red and serious black. When it comes to love, though, Scorpios soften up a bit and are caring and devoted with their lovers, even if they do hold on a bit tight. Scorpios are also lusty in the extreme (how else?), so they need to be mindful of their reproductive organs.

The great strength of the Scorpio-born is in their determination, passion and motivation. Scorpios don't know the word quit, which is why they usually get the job done. A powerhouse? Like no other.

How can we be single?

Look around CS. There are cheerful people, flirty people, good looking people, old, young, upbeat, animated, serious ... how on earth are we not all snapped up the second we put up our profiles? wow

Partly because we're perfectly normal, but sheesh, there are nutters out there.

And partly - now let's be completely honest, here - because we're, erm, fussy.

Take you. Uh huh, YOU. I know someone local, right size, nice-looking, relatively baggage-free, solvent, actively wanting to fall in love, who could be just right for you. Guaranteed not a scammer or game-player. Seriously.

No, I don't know if they love animals.
No, no idea how good they are with kids.
No, no idea why the last relationship ended.
No, they don't earn a fortune. Reasonable income, though.
No, they never won a Mr or Miss Universe competition. (Did you? wow)
No, I don't know if they do or don't want to get married. This is a DATE, okay? Not a contract.
No, I have NO IDEA when they will want sex!!!

What do you mean, you'll have to think about it? You've been talking about wanting to meet someone nice, I found you someone nice. Have one cup of coffee with them, that'll kill you?

Oh, okay. Your loss, though. Stay single. See if I care.

And what do you mean, why don't I date them, they're so good? Well - er - I'm not quite ready - oh bugger off.

Looking round in a puzzled way ...

So where are the South Africans? and the New Zealanders? is there something going on I should know about?

ONLY THE BEST GAME IN THE WHOLE RUGBY WORLD CUP.

I love the Boks, but hell the All Blacks are on good form at the moment. I don't think we can do it but I really, really hope we are extremely hard to beat banana

See you later. Or not, depending on how it goes. Hugs to all my rugby-watching saffer chums. beer cheers

Right now

Do you know what is happening right now, right this very minute? Statistics never lie.

approximately 14 000 people on CS are having sex

another 25 000 of us are kissing

50 000 of us are hugging or at least holding hands

and you - well, you're reading this.

Trust me, I'm not happy about it either.

Goooood MORNING CS! The clocks went back in the UK, so I became an hour younger during the night. I feel wonderful. yay

Do you read a lot?

If you do enjoy reading - Kindle or dead tree - you may be interested in beta-reading?

Beta readers read a book before it is sent for publishing: they are not critics, editors, or reviewers, they are a priceless bunch of people who like reading and find they like directly feeding back to the writer what they thought.

If you have ever wondered why a writer made what you thought was a mistake in direction, or wished you'd known why they'd made a decision, you may find you like beta-reading.

Anyway, I'm working on a book about seasoned singles - those coming back to the dating world, second time round (hardly a surprise to those of you who have read my blogs) and I'd dearly like some beta readers who know the world.

Message me if interested, or ask for more details in the comments. Betareading is unpaid, although if you get good at it (I'm very good) people will start offering to pay you to get your feedback. I would read yours with the greatest of pleasure, if you are also a writer.

I do have quite severe blocks on my profile (stop all but scammers, really) but am looking for a specific age group anyway, you should get through if suitable.

hug

Pick one

Be with someone who makes you happy

You cannot hang out with negative people and expect to lead a positive life.

It's better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction.

One of the hardest decisions you'll ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder.

When nothing goes right - go left.

Any of those any use to you? grin
