I love seafood!

Art and MiMi went out to celebrate a very special occasion yesterday.

We had calamari as a starter and we both had the same main course - lobster tail.

Choices of sides. We can choose 2.

Waitress: What sides to go with your lobster?

MiMi: Uhmmm.... can I have the seasonal vegetables ( which turned out to be green beans ) and uhmmm ..,. spinach please? Thank you.

Waitress: And how about you, Sir?

Art: I’ll have the coleslaw and.......the rice please.

The moment he mentioned rice, I looked daggers at him and blurted, “You don’t even like it when I cooked rice at home and you’re ordering rice now?!?” I was baffled! confused

With a smile Art replied, “Maybe their rice is different!”

I was like roll eyes very mad mumbling

And he went on to say, “And if I can’t finish it, I’m sure you will eat it for me”

If looks could kill ........ very mad mumbling

I gotta say, them calamari was nice.

Don’t like ‘em egg yolks

I hate egg yolks barf Just don’t fancy the strong ‘eggy’ smell.

The only time I would eat them ( reluctantly though ) is in my omelette. I would try to have egg whites only for my scrambled eggs if I could help it.

When my kids were young, I would make them soft boiled eggs. A dash of white pepper and coupled with a drizzle of light soy sauce.

Right after feeding them, I would haul them to the bathroom and bath them ..... lather them up with soap from head to toe! Would not want them to be smelling ‘eggy’ from those dried off nasty egg yolks around their mouth. Yikesssss!

I don’t mind having egg whites every other day. Poached, fried or hard boiled, I just love them! As for them egg yolks, I make lemon curd with them.

My cheesecake in a jar with lemon curd. These are so easy to make and I’ve given them to neighbours, family and friends.

Chinatown in Kansas City

I was in Kansas City last week. My second trip there. Both times not with Art but a fellow Malaysian girlfriend, PL.

I left all the decision makings to PL coz I was too lazy to crack my head to think about anything. She knows better coz she has been in the US since 2008 and has travelled to a lot of different states in the US.

The journey from Omaha to KC was slightly more than 3 hours. She drove all the way while I slept all the way! uh oh

When we reached KC, she asked me if I was hungry and I said “Yessss! I’m starving!!!” She then quickly checked on her cellphone the places where we could eat. Prior to the trip, she had informed me she would like to take me around the Chinatown in KC.

“Ok! I found a value-for-money buffet in Chinatown”, PL said excitedly.

When we were driving into the car park lot, she suddenly exclaimed, “Oh NOOOOO!!!! In my haste, I made a mistake ..... the restaurant is not in Chinatown ..... the restaurant is named ‘Chinatown’!!!!

She and I both laughed so hard until our tummies hurt! rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

We were still laughing when we got inside. And continued to laugh even more when we realized we were the only Chinese in there! For one moment I thought we were in Mexico! rolling on the floor laughing

MiMi is smart. MiMi won’t fall for all that! scold

That’s why she’s with her Arty....he claims to be NOT the sharpest tool in the shed drinking

He’s so poor that he hasn’t got a middle name ( which is entirely true by the way, he hasn’t got a middle name grin )

He always beats up guys bigger than him....but only in his mind roll eyes

And he’s always honest with the MiMi...by telling her that her cooking hasn’t improved a single bit since she got here mumbling

Omaha Siew Pau

All my life up until now, I didn’t have any trouble having access to yummy food.

Like I’ve said over and over again, Malaysia is a food haven and we eat round the clock grin

If someone were to say, “MiMi, one day you’ll bake siew pau!”

I’d be like, “Are you nuts?!?”

Well, I guess I am the one that have gone nuts coz not only I baked chicken siew pau, I’ve gone and baked a vegetarian version too!

Traditionally, it should be the pork version but I don’t really fancy pork and I substitute it with chicken.

My Malaysian girlfriend whom I’ve become quite close for the past 6 months, is a vegetarian and I know she would kill for these paus!

She’s coming over tomorrow and I can’t wait for her to sink her teeth into them!

This is the first time Art tried it and unfortunately he likes them. I was hoping that he doesn’t so that there would be more for the MiMi!! mumbling
