Women and men....Females in traditional male roles....

My eye doc is a (tall and very hot) 40 something lady. And I see a female Nurse Practitioner for the yearly physical and everyday care. But truthfully, as a bit of a car/boat/ MC guy, with more women each year at the parts counters, I get a sick feeling when walking in to order parts, and am relieved when someone goes to her before me, and a man has an opening. Have had a few bad experiences with the ladies in this role, but it's happened with men as well.

Farming is the only choice I had, when I had to stay with children and earn a living.
I prefer a female gynae, any questions can be franker and less awkward than with a male. I imagine a man would prefer having a prostate check from a male doctor for the same reason?

Not otherwise particularly fussed. I'd be taken aback by a female mechanic or plumber etc and I might be a bit more critical of the first job they did for me because those really aren't traditional female roles, but if they were competent I'd be more likely to give them preference going forward.
Typical grounded, fair and clued comments Ladies. Thanks. In many respects, a farm life is most of what one needs to get on in life, and often a lot more, than those not so fortunate. And yes, women can do it well, but I'd agree that the gender learning curve might still be a bit steep. Yet I watched a lady mechanic while taking a friends's car for it's yearly inspection, and she didn't miss a single trick. And I just changed the timing belts on my vintage road machine, and retimed the engine, so I know what to look for. Dr. G., my octogenerian male Prostate expert, is better for my squeamish sensibilities than a female might be, but perhaps for the wrong reasons. We are in the same philosophy monthly discussion group, and early on I warned him about my preference for yearly prostate exams. Specifically, I don't want the type where the nurse or doctor has hands on both shoulders, and a big smile going, during the delightful proceedure.
