Looking for help with Outlook.com

My Outlook mailbox recently gave itself an upgrade and seems to have lost my email address in the process. Now when I try to sign in it comes up with my skype name, and I can't find how to change that default. It asks me to enter or create an email address and when I enter my outlook address, tells me that name is already in use. Well, duh.

Anyone had this problem, more importantly, anyone know how to solve it?

Tried the following so far -
When I click on support I get the options of user community or support.
If I choose support I am looped back to the first screen roll eyes
If I choose user community, I can't find the topic of changing the default, and if I try to ask the question, I am told to log in first very mad

So if any of the rather brilliant people lurking on this site know how to solve this small problem, I would be very pleased to know

For the rest of you, have a great Sunday.

Today a year ago the movers picked up all my furniture in Scotland and took it into storage while I packed my camper ready to hit the road. It has been an interesting year.

I ended up with an outlook email after windows 10 mess , I just know its going to fail like the last one so I don't use it . Can I suggest you get a g-mail .
Perhaps delete cookies for Outlook & even delete the password on your browser, then you should be able to start with a clean sheet dunno
Change or reset your password
If you're having trouble signing in with a local account, see Reset your Windows 10 local account password for info.

If you think your Microsoft account has been compromised, try to sign in to it online. (If you're already signed in on your device, sign out first.)

If you successfully sign in, you should change your password immediately. This will stop anyone who knows your password from signing in again. Go to the Security page, select Change password, and then follow the instructions.
If you can’t sign in to your account, try resetting your password. Select Forgot my password on the sign-in page, choose the reason you need to your password reset, and then follow the instructions.
If your account is not blocked and you're still having trouble signing in, see When you can't sign in to your account for more tips.
Recover your Microsoft account
If none of the above helped get you back in to your account, fill out the account recovery form. This is the last option to get you back in to your account if you can't reset your password or an attacker changed your account settings. See Recover your Microsoft account for additional info.
Go to account.live.com/acsr.
Under Email, phone or Skype name, enter the info for the account you need to recover.
Enter an email address that we can use to contact you about your account recovery.
Enter the characters you see on the screen to prove you're not a robot, then select Next.
A screen will pop up asking you to verify that email address. We'll send you a security code in an email. Enter that code, and select Verify.
Now you'll be asked to answer several questions about yourself and your account. Fill in as much info as you can, even if you're not sure. See Tips for filling out the recovery form below.
Select Submit when you're finished.
Review your account info
If someone else got into your account, you want to make sure they didn't use your data or change your settings. Sometimes attackers make back doors into your account so they can still see your information after you reset your password. Use the following steps to review your important settings.

Show all
If you suspect unexpected or unauthorized charges on your account
If you use OneDrive
If you use Outlook or Hotmail
Okay gosh thanks lots of stuff to look at!

Jarred, thanks! and nice to have you commenting handshake

Epirb, luckily it isn't my main email account which could be part of the reason it sank, I didn't use it much

Z, will slightly nervously try that
No need to worry about that, it'll replace them as soon as you log-in.
I'm trying to think if I even know the password for my browser. Not logged out before. confused

(Just tried the cookie route on Outlook, it said I can do anything I want just as soon as I log in. frustrated)
I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Pro and struck this problem.

All I had to do was sign in using my Windows 7(outlook) username and password and all was there.

Your login for mail is usually your Microsoft passport as well. Everyting is stored in Microsoft severs, not your own computer, so you haven't lost a thing. Try a login using your (old) username & password. Don't try and create a new username etc. The switch should be seamless.

Please let me know if this works.

comfort
It's on the browser you need to delete cookies, also on the browser the stored password, that assumes you know the password laugh then when you go to log-in to Outlook it won't know who you are so should give a clean box to enter your email address & password.
Are you on Windows 7 or 10?
lol! I lost my old email address a while back... got a message it was corrupted, and no way possible to get in and change my password.... tryed everything, exept goin to the states and meet them in person....frustrated laugh

...maybe close youre skype account for a bit...dunno

cool wine
Alan, I'm on 7 with no intention of upgrading, I have 10 on the laptop I use for teaching and hate it with a passion, mainly because of the infuriating updates which I can't override or stop. I have to switch the laptop on at least an hour before class so that it can try to load, then reverse, updates which I never wanted in the first place, before it will let me log in.

very mad

And yes, I am a rabbit, terrorized and bullied by my computers. Bite me.

sigh
The problem has been solved fairly simply - told to try logging in from another browser, there was no default, it simply asked me to enter my address and I'm in

cheering yay

14 emails waiting, 12 of them from the same increasingly irritated person. All sorted.

THANK YOU ALL
Mmmmmm............ strange. Windows 7 is, and still is Outlook.

Make sure you have all your usernames and passwords written down somewhere, then go into "history" and clear cookies and cache, then restart your comp. Then open your email & type in username & password.
