Soup's On!

Monday night at the BBQ for the executive for photo club, I indulged in a half cup of coffee. Oh yeah, not a good thing. I got home about 11pm, totally wired and awake. Rather than lay in bed and toss and turn, I grabbed my camera gear and headed out to a nearby village that used to be THE commerce site for shipping goods and people down the river.

Standing off the highway on a wide shoulder overlooking the river, a 20' drop to the boulders below reminds me not to get too close to the edge. The full moon is incredibly bright, reflecting off the river and making the shadows seem even darker.

As I was shooting, my tripod set up for a long exposure, a motorhome rumbled by, very close to the edge of the road. At the time, I thought, hey bud - you're awfully close. Once he'd passed me, I didn't think any more of it. A short time later I heard an odd 'pop' and a crash. My first thought was that it was a car accident, but not metal on metal. Again, I didn't really think any more about it.

Eventually, I got into my car, parked down the shoulder on a pull out, and headed home. I passed the motorhome that looked like it was parked on the side of the road until I reached the front end that was very obviously hanging over the ditch at an odd angle. No one was about, so I phoned the local RCMP, realizing that was the crash that I'd heard.

I have no idea what happened. The guy might have blown a tire or fallen asleep at the wheel.

After two hours sleep, I was, once again, up and out to the same area to take more photos in the early morning light. The motorhome was gone, and the light was absolutely perfect for taking photos. Numerous photos later of the setting moon, the speed boats on the river zooming past a watching heron on a piling, and hours later, I was headed back home.

The cooler weather is a welcome respite from the intense heat and forest fires we're in the throes of currently. The recent rain has helped to curb the forest fire near me, thank goodness, and has me craving hot soup rather than cold salads. As yesterday was too nice a day to spend making soup, and a late morning rain today increased that hankering for something warm, today was soup-making day.

A quick trip into town to get my oil and coolant changed and purchase some chicken breasts for the soup, and to buy a zucchini and I was ready! As a side note, I have three zucchini plants and not one of them has a zucchini ready at this time! Thus, I had to purchase one for zoodles.

I've just had a bowl of my home-made Chicken Zoodle soup and it's delicious, as usual! What makes the soup, Imo, are the zoodles and fresh dill. Mmmm mmm! I added some of the frozen zoodles I'd had in the freezer, and there's no difference between those and the ones I cut today. I love the olive oil drizzled over the top of the soup and the fresh lemon squeezed into it. Between that and the fresh dill - YUM!

I'd bought all kinds of veggies on Monday for juicing to try to get more iron into my system, and have, as yet, to juice any of them. Dinner will include some kind of iron-rich juice - and maybe just another bowl of this delicious soup before I freeze some of it.

Next up to make, carrot ginger soup.

Soup's on!

Hello LadyImp, wave Funny you mentioned soup, confused My winter project is to learn how to make a good pot of soup. I ve been doing some reading, going to chat with a few of the family elders..... My project for the fall. So if you have any good recipes, send them my way.
Um... did you check to see if the occupants of the motorhome were OK ?
1to1 - Here's the one I made today. Easy and delicious!
Um, Jim, it was 2:30am and, in looking after my own safety, decided that calling the police was the wisest thing to do. I wasn't prepared to go pounding on a motorhome door, especially with it hanging over a ditch, in the middle of the night. That's why we have police.
Imp,

Good blog!thumbs up
Mama mia i love zucchini...thanks for the thoughts.
One of my favorite soups is Butternut Squash soup with a little bit of apple and bacon bits.

I'm dying to hear how your Cauliflower soup came out if you made it. That looked so good. I'm a soup lover but it is always so hot here it is hard to enjoy a bowl of hot soup as often as a nice cool crisp salad.
GentleJim - thanks! grin
Bluesky - you're welcome! This soup is absolutely delicious and the fresh dill, Imo, totally makes it. thumbs up
Fay - I also love butternut squash soup with ginger. Mmm! I'm so glad soup weather is upon us. I didn't make the cauliflower soup last night, as I hadn't realized how late it was when I made dinner. So maybe today.

I have a craft fair this weekend, and homemade soup is always great to take with me to these markets/fairs.

I have to look for the recipe for tomato soup that calls for a bit of apple to be added to it. That was the best tomato soup I ever made! (I miss the emoji on MD that had the bib and knife and fork!)
I had a some Bloody Mary left over in my glass picture. The next day I was craving some tomato soup so I used the left over bloody mary and I must say vodka does a soup good.
Just sat down to read the blogs and noticed your blog. I was in the kitchen making split pea soup. Weather is cooling a bit and it makes a good meal for me. Freeze the rest in lunch containers and am ready to go to work with homemade soup....yum yum
Cwizzy - I love soup for almost any meal! It's one of those things that's so easy to make, and usually makes lots, so all you have to do is take some out of the freezer, and voila! The meal's done!

thumbs up
TR - Yum! That sounds absolutely delicious, as I love any squash soup and particularly pumpkin. I have a recipe for cream of pumpkin ginger soup, I'll definitely have to try that this year.

Watching the rain with a steaming bowl of soup on a cold, rainy day is perfect! Along with the dancing flames of a fire. grin
I love butternut squash soup too daydream

i make a lovely spicy one in the winter
Well, come on, Molly - share! grin
I love buttersquash soup but I've never had a pumpkin soup and I dearly love pumpkin so I guess I have to go searching for that recipe. YUMM....now all I need is a winter. Last year we had a few winter days here and there not many and never very cold.
Consider yourself lucky, Fay! Although, I really love the seasons, and especially soup on a chilly day. grin
I love roasted food! But, can't you roast it in a bbq? It would eliminate being in the kitchen. Not sure that I would want to do that though, not when it's hot. I love roasting veggies etc, in the winter. I love the fragrance through the house, and the 'comfort' of the scent - as well as how nice and toasty it makes the house.
I wasn't allowed to have a bbq grill when in Orlando - Now I can have one but haven't gotten around to buying one. For some reason the men in my life always did the bbqing so I'm a tad embarrassed to say I'm not familiar with how to do it myself.
Fay - I wasn't either, but now I'm pretty good at it! The bbq's are really easy these days, and I'm so glad I had the natural gas line put in for the bbq. So no propane tanks, just turn the valve on and start the bbq. Heck, if I can do it, anyone can. grin
