President Trump's disapproval hits a high as half the country supports impeachment
President Trump has a 60% disapproval rate among Americans, while special counsel Robert Mueller has the backing of a clear majority, according to a new poll.
President Trump is not winning any popularity contests.
The commander-in-chief’s disapproval rating has hit a high point of 60% , according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll out Friday. Only 36% of those polled said they approve of Trump’s job performance.
ABC News noted that Trump’s average approval rating since he entered the White House is the lowest of any modern president since the 1940s.
Trump, however, recently bragged about his popularity among Republicans last by tweeting out an incorrect approval rating.
“Over 90% approval rating for your all time favorite (I hope) President within the Republican Party and 52% overall,” Trump tweeted. “This despite all of the made up stories by the Fake News Media trying endlessly to make me look as bad and evil as possible. Look at the real villains please!”
A poll released by The Wall Street Journal and NBC News last week found that Trump had a 44% approval and 52% disapproval rating among general voters.
Friday’s poll found that even among Republicans, only 78% give Trump’s efforts in the White House a thumbs up.
The survey also found that half the public back Congress initiating impeachment proceedings against Trump.
The stunning poll numbers come after a flurry of legal activity in Trump’s inner orbit. Last week, his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations and implicated the President in a scheme to pay off women alleging affairs.
His former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was also convicted of tax and bank fraud.
And support for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation stands at 63%, despite Trump’s attempts to discredit the probe. Fifty-two percent of Americans strongly support the federal inquiry into Russian election interference and possible connections between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.
Trump has repeatedly attempted to smear Mueller and his team of investigators by painting them as politically biased and frequently referring to the investigation as a “witch hunt.”
According to the new poll, 61% of Americans believe that if Cohen’s admissions are true, Trump broke the law. Fifty-three percent also think Trump has obstructed the Mueller investigation in some way.
Also troubling for the President, the majority of Americans, 66%, oppose a pardon for Manafort. Even among Republicans, 45% are against the idea.
And when it comes to Trump’s dispute with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, 62% of respondents back the former Alabama senator. The President has publicly berated Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia probe, which eventually led to Mueller’s appointment.
Sixty-four percent also oppose the idea of Trump firing Sessions.
The poll was conducted from Aug. 26 to 29 and included 1,003 adults. The margin of error is 3.6 points.

Oh yeah? Then "half the public" would better get to the polls in November and prove it.
Why will the Navy never name an aircraft carrier after T-Rump?
Because a carrier needs a full deck.
You Trump haters are very short sighted
OD - Thanks. I did find it, and it was surrounded by nonsense not worth retorting to.
BC - The USA was doing much better before Trump and will do much better after Trump.
He has done little positive since being sworn in. He has alienated our allies, embraced our enemies,
allowed greater pollution, destroyed net neutrality, imprisoned children, created a tariff war, and set a record for the number of lies.
K - Plus, the carrier makes statements that CAN hold water.
But, when we see all the evidence, you may change your mind. Indeed, I think you will.
"I'm looking forward to my client's day in court.
It's getting harder & harder to pretend he's innocent".
he won't be impeached if the Republicans retain control ?
Change my mind regards to political figures never gonna happen. It's never made a difference of which party gets into office to me they are all the same.
If they plan on impeaching Trump they should go all the way back to when he first announced that he was going to hire an attorney and have Hillary arrested.Or go back to the day that he took the oath of office where said “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Since that was said under oath maybe he should be impeached for that too.
Must be the same people that said hillary would win by a landslide.
A country of over 300,000,000 people of which about 235,000,000 plus, are eligible to vote.
Any one else seeing some problems with the math?
D - Obviously the more random voters included in a poll, the more significant the determination. I'll agree with you on that. However, no polls are done with 200,000,000 people.
If the poll is done the same way each time, there is some significance to changes in the results.
Considering the recent guilty pleas and guilty findings together with the poll, it adds strength to the possibility of cause and effect.

I suppose that's why some that turned against their own party say they would vote for him again.
Since Trump's financial records were cleared a long time ago already, I don't think any type of immunity is needed unless said agencies took it upon themselves to do something. Trump hasn't been in control since well before election night.
It's far beyond any type of collusion investigation reach and all parties should be removed and prosecuted right up to obozo itself. obozo interfered with elections to create the growing cesspool he created. Sad that so many can't grasp the truth of it.
That is the cesspool created by obozo that has nothing to do with justice, country, or truth.
To tell it like it is means to unseat and disinfect the cesspool.
I've brought to light, many names and even from the beginning, noted that Russia most likely had nothing to do with the elections.
Funny, even after Trump on the campaign trail said that we don't really know who hacked the dnc, with a short list of possibilities, there's a trail leading to china from hillary, that may have cost lives. She was never investigated thoroughly and neither were her emails. Missing servers, IT with evidence against them walk. Nothing but corruption form the DoJ and obozo. obozo was supposed to be kept posted on every thing per his own orders.
Stop listening to the news and start reading about ALL of the people involved along with events.
They have nothing on Trump except what they stretch for and out. If they did, it would have been used long before now. They're trying to find and charge any thing they can and none of it is Trump campaign related. People fired as soon as anything was brought to bare that could compromise was perfectly good sense.
Russia is prepared to meet the investigation team and some accused businesses are actually preparing to meet them in court to call their bluff. The mueller people aren't even trying to question any one but dodging using "about how they operate" as an excuse. Where is the evidence of Russia any thing where the people weren't willing to be out in the open from their embassy, to political circles?
I'll bet ol' feinstein was able to compromise many secrets over the years too.
that Russian hackers DID flood the internet with lies about Hilary, while posing as US citizens, some of which you have propagated yourself.
And also, that Russians attempted to actually hack into voting machines in dozens of US states. Even Trump at one point admitted this to be the case. Why you choose to remain blind to this is odd.
Are you affiliated in some way with Russia ???
Here is a very interesting story no trump lover would dare read lest they see the truth of exactly what kind of people trump associates with. They just might have their blinders ripped from their eyes for the first time.
I guess people can quit buying ads on the internet, cause they have absolutely no affect on anyone. I guess there is no advertising that has any affect. A lot of money can be saved buy not buying advertising.
And then his followers, like the lip-service Christians they are, resort to name calling of liar and hypocrite or POS when they can't refute the facts. They can't see that their own lying, hypocritical reflection and that of the biggest POS - #45. Corrupt is not even close to what he engages in, along with Congress. The cult of trump is like any other cult in history - and that is exactly what the GOP has become.
I agree, Jim. Go trump - anywhere else along with his corrupt cronies and family.
(A lip-service Christian is one who purports to follow the teachings of Christ, and likes to flaunt their Christianity as if they're wearing a badge, while they behave in the LEAST Christian manner. I suggest those lip-service Christians get out their bible and go back to church, because Christ would have cringed and been appalled at their behaviour).
And Bearwoman was absolutely correct in her assessment, but notice they are noticeably absent now.
He has a long history of ineptness and inappropriate behavior. One probably would have done better to randomly choose someone else, indeed, just about any other candidate.
