shelf life... BOOM!!
My brother told me he heard an explosion coming from the kitchen side of his house. Running to see what it was, one kitchen door was open and something was dripping from the shelf. His inspection revealed a can of crab meat blew open and splattered spoiled crab inside the cabinet. The smell was atrocious and wiping the area clean with ammonia based solvents did nothing. A week later and the smell didn't disappear. He went to the hardware store for advice and they sold him some enzyme activated cleaner... that didn't work either.
My suggestion was to get a can of spray clear lacquer sealer and paint all of the inside of the cabinet.
As of last week, he bought brush on shellac and hasn't started the project.
I'm thinking, he's getting used to the smell...
As a word of advice... check all your canned goods for a shelf life (or best if used by) date stamp. Use them or toss them...
If ANY can is slightly puffed, out it goes. I know many jars have concave detection lids. When packed in a vacuum the lid surface is curved down. Any can that has been opened or spoiling from the inside the curve pops up.

I was helping him clean out the refrigerator and cupboards where I found lots of canned foods and an opened jar of jelly that was spoiled and smelled as if it had been there since the last supper. I'm surprised that no one got deathly sick.
Come to find out my friend's sister was living in the house.
Nice Blog, reminds the reader to check items inside the kitchen cupboards.
It important to put a red stickers on something that is near to expire.. Red for a month expiration, yellow for the those whou would expire in two months, and blue for 3 months nearly to expire, or what colour you would wish to use, but red is a must be for the first one to expire. And remind the whole member of the family. Even at home we could practice that FIFO..or first in first out, but then sometimes, just like me, I used to buy items on sale, which the expiration of those items on sale are not that long. So putting colored stickers would help keep us reminded.
Another thing, if there is that foul smell in a certain area, sodium bicarbonate could be of help even charcoal, these can absorb bad smells, though that smell of an expired canned crab meat, is not easy, as even a fresh crab meat have strong smell.
Good day everyone.. :
