Florence is headed to North Carolina...

Born off the West coast of Africa, Florence had a small beginning that looked like it would head up the Atlantic Ocean and eventually fizzle out. That was last week. I'm checking the National Hurricane Center website this morning and the prediction has completely changed.

Florence had upgraded to a hurricane with 110mph winds on a course to smack the East Coast of the United States, most likely in the region of North Carolina.

From what I see, Florence could intensify and make landfall Thursday or Friday.
So make preparations now... Food, supplies, bottled water, flashlights and batteries, gas up your car. Be in Preparation H mode if you will...

One a serious note, I've linked the Hurricane Florence advisory that automatically updates at least 6 times per day as it follows the storm.

Hurricanes aren't noted for staying on course.

I hope I remember to check the weather Wed to see if I stay or run.
"Now a category 4 hurricane. The largest to eventually hit that area since hurricane Hugo back in 1989."

Here in NJ flooding is already starting to be a bit of a problem along the shore.
The 11pm advisory has Hurricane Florence striking the coast of North Carolina Thursday evening. That means the storm would have time to intensify in the warm afternoon waters and make landfall at maximum intensity. Current sustained wind speed is 110mph.

I took a look at Satellite imagery and though the storm isn't as large as other hurricanes I've seen in the past, the eye is clearly formed. Sometimes smaller hurricanes pack a bigger punch and cause more devastation in a narrower path.

Florence is a seriously powerful hurricane.
Stay safe...

Be prepared...

The Carolina coast is in mandatory evacuation mode. The electric companies are predicting wide spread outages as many areas in the storm path still use exposed overhead power lines. Severe flooding is expected as it has been raining for several weeks already and Florence is expected to dump 8 or more inches of water on some areas.

As always some will wait to the last possible second to go to the store and buy supplies while others won't bother, then be wailing when their lights go out and they have no water or food after a few days.

Mind my ignorance...but are you in the storms pathway?...

Nice to see you here...wine
Oh oh the news is calling this a monster of a storm, lots of expected flooding and evacs going on already. NC is preparing much better than FL does.
Trump's failure to have appointed department heads at FEMA after last year's hurricane season, added to his decimation of the EPA, doesn't bode well for the best possible outcome, sadly.
20 people died due to Hurricane Florence. sad flower
I thought the last head count was 32 fatalities :( - I hope I'm wrong.
It keeps going up Fay. Perhaps you heard a report more recently than I did. :(
