Women and men....Tears at funerals, soap operas, sad movies......

Admittedly anecdotal, but we boys didn't tear up this week end, but sisters did. Yet, when youngest Sis delivered eulogy, not a tearless eye in the house. Mostly of laughter at Mum's funny nature. Is there a difference between the sexes over tearing up?

I don't usually cry at funerals, but I certainly did at both my dad's and much later at my mom's, as I gave the eulogies. crying
Yes, JN, and thanks. Did dad's eulogy extemporaneously, and it wasn't bad, but Like a ditz, neglected to mention his military service---very important part of his life. Sister's talk on our mom was awesome, and funny, and she prepared in advance. Real fun begins now with work on the estate. Good that all six of us get along and aren't fighting over things.
That is excellent. I've heard horror stories from people I know, where that was not the case.
My sister & I had no issues, although her husband tried to be a buttinski.
I'm sorry for the loss of your Mum....rose

....however....

"Admittedly anecdotal, but we boys didn't tear up this week end, but sisters did."

How manly of you....roll eyes

...and you talk of the "real fun" beginning, with dividing up your mother's estate.

Already? ....the real fun?

Wow......just, wow....thumbs down
At least funerals are turning into more of a celebration of the persons life these days and, after I did an eulogy for my father funeral some of the mourners said that they had to stop themselves laughing and I wished they had done. At the funeral of my late fathers best man his son did a eulogy mainly of his late father and some things about his late mother and the mourners did laugh during it and give a round of applause when he finished. Yes my cousin did cry at his mothers funeral and found it hard to do his part of the eulogy with his two sisters.

Yes men should show their strength by not crying but that can be also show they have no feelings so to me it is better to cry.
Well maybe if they lived a long and happy life and died of natural causes you would keep it jovial, but I can't see us here on November 11th sharing a minute's laughter.
I'm sorry for your loss as well but glad your sister was able to give a good euology.

When my sister did one for her young grandson that drowned, she recorded it and played it in the funeral home, otherwise she would have cried too hard delivering it live. Not a dry eye in the house from the recording.
Thanks, all. And Berry, inability to appreciate cynical sarcasm often goes along with a lack of worldliness. Doubt you have done so or know what is involved in being executor of a will. But more to the Men/women dynamic, interesting how your take was chiding, rather than instinctively supportive. Instinctively chiding. VERY instinctively chiding.
Yes, JN, and thanks. We are six together, with my being the oldest, and therefore the victim of being will executor;-) We all pretty much get along, but oddly, one of my B-I-L's is a tree top Budinski, over the whole affaire.
Brother, sister and parents died. For some reason I could not cry on any of the funerals. I can not even figure out exactly, what was I feeling like.
Funeral tears are too often a sign of a weakness rather than of a sorrow.
You're the big man V.....wow

Executor of a will and all. We have so much to learn from you with your ongoing Men and Women series...wave

Frankly, I fail to see how speaking of the very recent death of a loved one and divving up the proceeds of their estate all in one breath, is an appropriate place for sarcasm.

Perhaps I don't understand your humour.

Perhaps I don't want to.

Oh....and btw....tears at a funeral are not a sign of weakness imo......from either gender.
