Fish head soup...

We stopped at the Asian Market yesterday and bought a few things. After a brief conversation with the woman at the meat counter, she went in the back and returned with the head of a salmon. My wife said we would have soup. Knowing what to expect, my only request was to cut the eyes out first!
I didn't want to know about the rest of the preparation.

I'm surprised your wife doesn't eat the eyes, my daughter-in-law and her son do. My son and I can't eat anything that looks back at us.
I made this Salmon soup the other day. Not the head though.

Has she tried making soup from the body of the fish ? grin
No thanx i.will pass.
Hi Chat, I have never tried it,but probably would if ever had the opportunity.

You never said if you liked it.

cheers
Hi Chati wave
My way of cooking is mostly boil and steam. So yes, when I make Salmon soup, I start with vegetables and then add the raw fish and let it boiled for a few minutes only.

I do fry, esp when making corn fritters.

I bet they taste wonderful. But the first dish from that former Dutch hotbed of exploitive and cruel repressive imperialism reminds of my drunken student days, hugging onto the edges of the bowl, for dear life. Second one is a bit more appealing.
The first one is the batter, Sehoch! scold
You cannot make corn fritters without making the batter first! You silly man! giggle
I have never tried any sort of fish soup. It took me forever to acquire the taste for fish.

I do however make my Daddy a Louisiana seafood gumbo on special occassions which is really costly but he loves it so worth it. No fish in his gumbo, all shell fish I think. It's rich.

When I go for economic meals for me it is beans.
Thanks, K. See, how much we learn on CS. And U, a little cod won't hurt. Big Easy-Azorean touch.
Fish Head Soup... mmm on that thought I may have to skip breakfast.
Certain South American cultures have fish head soup in there cousins. I have had average versions that were actually not that bad, and I have had really good versions that are really good. It's kind of like eating soft shell crab sandwiches, absolutely delicious but do not open the bread and peek at the crab.
