Don't let China build your dams.

This ran in the NYT but since they have a paywall you can read about it here.

"Technischer Uberwachungs-Verein (TUV SUD) will carry out a new inspection of the 1,500-MW Coca Codo Sinclair Hydroelectric Power Plant and will determine the solutions to the fissures in the distributors.

TUV SUD is a German company specialized in testing, inspection, auditing, certification and engineering training.

The costs of the inspections and repairs of the fissures will be assumed in full by the contractor, so they will not have any cost for the Ecuadorian State, according to a press release from the Electric Corporation of Ecuador. Sinohydro signed the contract with TUV SUD in early November.

The special examination, which was requested by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Nonrenewable (MERNNR) Carlos Perez to the General Comptroller of the State, is part of the policy implemented by the national government to make information transparent, to protect economic resources of the state and fight corruption.

Since the beginning of the current government, the MERNNR and the Electric Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP), through its Coca Codo Sinclair Business Unit, initiated a series of actions to determine the state of the largest hydroelectric power plant in the country. In that context previously, in August, the company Consulting Inspection Services (CIS) inspected the hydroelectric plant and issued a first report on the issue of fissures in the distributors.

Likewise, the national government demanded the delivery of a 10-year guarantee for the proper functioning of the distributors, which will become effective once they have been repaired to satisfaction TUV SUD.

The Coca Codo Sinclair Hydroelectric Power Plant, on the Coca River between the Napo and Sucumbio provinces, was fully operational in November 2016. CELEC says it is operating normally and is generating the energy required by the National Electricity Operator CENACE to meet the country's electricity demand.

So while there are some problems, they are not beyond repair, the above OP is like suggesting "Don't let America build your Aircraft" . because Boeing cannot connect batteries correctly.
So the OP is more distorted "news".
What China had done to Ecuador is being done to the Phils because of the present leadership. What is totally outrageous is the seeming invitation for the Phils to be a mere province of China as Per "Joke" of the present administration. Hope my country would learn from yours.
Thanks for the comments Nam, 1to1, Mimi, and tatami. And yes China is very aggressive in trying to gain control of the resources of many countries including many in Africa, as well as Asia and South America.

t's almost comical that Riz would be accusing the New York Times of being fake news. On the odd chance that you have a paid subscription to the Times or you haven't reached your limit of free articles I'll go ahead and provide the Times link. The Times article was published on Christmas Eve and gives a lot of details missing from the spin piece that Riz posted without attribution.
