How Much Do You Really Know About The Food You Eat?

I'm not a picky eater but I do try to eat healthy, balanced diet, healthy ingredients but I do indulge myself with some junk foods from time to time.

Someone brought me Haggis from Scotland and wanted me to like it. I've heard that Haggis is made of liver, offals and trimmings. I like liver but I don't like the thought of eating viscera and trimmings , they are not something that would stimulate my appetite. Well, he made a very nice Haggis pie and I did liked it...told him that surprisingly it tastes just like the canned "liver" spread I like to eat since I can remember, something that reminds me of my grandpa who introduced me to this foodgrin

I went to an Asian market few days ago and was surprised to see those canned liver spread, I bought about half a dozen and was really happy about it. I was about to open a can then thought about the ingredients and right there were clearly written : "Pork and beef liver, OFFALS and TRIMMINGS , cereals, vegetable oil & protein, sugar, iodized salt, seasoning and sodium nitrate" . Obviously our own version of Haggis!

I'm eating offals and trimmings all my life, just didn't know about it! doh laugh

I'm not an offal fan help
My Son said to me, when he was her in Christmas, that" soon you can not eat anymore anything else, than Organic" frustrated
Sems,

Organic? How can you be sure it's organic unless you grow them yourself ?

Organic produce are ridiculously expensive and we can't even know if they are really organic or not...how can we tell?sigh
It's very difficult to get certified organic here, Crazy.
One local farmer I buy from is a great advocate of organic food, but she sells as 'chemical-free' instead as the process to be called organic is so exhaustive.
Anything I grow myself is chemical-free too.
And I generally buy from farmers' markets so I know where the product comes from.
We are lucky to have good quality food here anyway.
"Its Better Not To Know"........................detective
Hi CH wave when I was manager over produce on my last job, I noticed it was the price of organic products that kept them from buying. Talking about not knowing what you are eating look at the ingredients of off brand hot dog wieners. laugh

Good to see you. hug
Organic = not intentionally poisoned.
I don't trust the grocery stores "organic" labels since it drives up the price. I do however trust my own garden where I use soapy water or vinegar to fight bugs and disease and make my own fertilizer.

I'm not sure if I would like Hagis or not. I've never tried a liver spread but I like liver and onions fried.
My goodness so glad I have allergy to meat grin I do read labels, and wash and peel veggies, but even then like molly says home grown is best. You no exactly what they have had to eatlaugh

wave hi crazy happy new year peace
I´ve got some fresh, natural meat if anyone is interested
Is it organic? writing
*spoiler alert : don't read this.

Some ears ago, I was an organic donor. I grew tomatoes, radishes, strawberries. My dogs would water them and fertilize them with their natural waters and fertilizers.

Then I'd donate them to people.
All natural grown. grin
