Would I raise my grandchild, if I ever got one? I'd really, really sooner not I think the very old and the very young have a lot to offer each other but not on a fulltime carer basis, not good for either.
I was lucky. When my kids were very young, I had the help of my maternal grandparents and a live-in nanny to help me with the kids.
Don’t think I could’ve handled them on my own. I probably would’ve strangled my son He was such a handful!
P.S Their dad was living apart coz of his job in Singapore and would only come back to Malaysia once every 3-4 months and stayed not more than 6 days each visit.
Of course I would raise my great grandchild if necessary and that could, in theory, happen before I reach the age of 60, so still relatively young.
All the same, I don't have the energy and fitness level now that I did a quarter of a century ago.
It wouldn't be ideal, but kinship fostering and adoption has major advantages for the child.
Respect due to your friend.
