News from Denmark!

Or, news from the Danish political party, Alternativet (translated into The Alternative).

The leader of that party, wants to make our cellphones and washing machines more expensive, by taxing electronic devices with harmful ingredients in them. The idea is, that they want people to pick more environmentally friendly phones and washing machines.

Naturally, they are the only ones with that opinion. Some believe that taxing people isn't the way forward, and that other, more acceptable solutions are picked.

Another piece of political news, comes from Veganerpartiet (translated into The Vegan Party). Actually, there are loads of news from that party. One of them is, that they want to ban the milk that kids are served in schools, because, according to them, it is an obsolete thing to serve. "Milk is a highly unethical item of food", is their reasoning behind that.

One of the other things, that The Vegan Party have said, is that by eating meat, you are beating your kid and you are a p*dophile. Apparently, the ones who eat meat, are just straight up monsters. But according to the guy behind the political party, that is a misunderstanding, and that that wasn't what they meant by that. At all. They simply wanted to draw attention to what is right, and what is wrong. And for some reason, they chose to imply, that by eating meat you are a monster to your fellow humans.

I am not a vegan, but I have some friends who are. I don't really believe that they are feeling the same way as the political party, but I can always ask around.

So yeah, the Vegan Party is just a bit out there, if I am honest.

I eat a plant based diet, but I dont think of myself as 'a vegan', nor would I join the Vegan Party.

I kind of agree with them about the milk in schools, however. Back in the days when rickets was common, it had ethical value, but better standards of living and modern farming techniques have somewhat negated that. Halfway decent free school meals for low income families would be more beneficial and a better use of resources.

I think if I wanted to 'spread the word' a vegan party would be a better idea. party buddies

If people can see that plant based food can be a deliciously splendid healthy option, perhaps more folk would experiment with their five a day.

I have little doubt that it could improve the health of the world and the planet if people were more open to vegetable matter, but beating them over the head with a carrot stick is unlikely to be overly persuasive and perhaps somewhat counter-productive. It's not exactly ethical, either.
Mangetout is one of my favourite vegs snooty

Must soya bean is grown in California. It is a GM crop. It also uses 10% of the entire water supply of that drought-ridden state.

I think a happy medium has to be found.
I eat more veg than I do meat. But I do drink a lot of milk too.
I read an interesting article once about the inconsistent qualities of plant based milks and a lot are terrible. A pure marketing ploy.
Molly I never knew they grew a lot of soy beans it California. But did you know it take 1.1 gallons of water to grow one almond?
I must agree with you that some plant based milks are hogwash, if that's not too much of a contradiction, but there have been vast improvements over the many decades I've been a consumer. I'm guessing that, at least in part, that has to do with demand. It's worth vetting the ingredients for additives such as thickeners, lanolin based vitamin D (if a plant based diet is the goal) and trying out different brands for taste.

Soya is also grown in third world countries, such as those in Africa, for the Western animal feed market. Some 75% of the world's soya is made into protein rich animal feed and is eaten by livestock, not us pesky vegans, or hungry third world children. Cutting down rainforest for soya production (presumably to feed the livestock that other bits of rainforest have been desecrated for) is also an issue.
