Warkings/Follow The Cipher/Amaranthe - a review!

Since the death of my father, I have only been to one concert, and that was Shania Twain. So when a Facebook page offered up a competition for two tickets to a gig in Copenhagen with the power metal band Amaranthe, I tried my luck and entered the competition, and I won.

Yesterday was the day of the concert. I had enlisted a friend to come with me, since I knew he was a big power metal fan. And wow, was that evening fun!

The first band was Warkings. Nobody knows the members or where they are from, because they wear costumes on stage. The drummer was dressed like a Spartan, which was pretty rad to see! The rest of the band were dressed in home made costumes, which added a sense of theater to their show. Their lyrical themes are warriors and war, and they were extremely entertaining to watch. So much energy on the stage!

Next up was Follow The Cipher, which started as a side project for the lead guitarist from Sabaton. Their set was primarily Sabaton inspired, and the lead singer was trying her absolute best to entertain. I would have loved them, if they were any better than they were. Sadly, they were quite a disappointment. During Follow The Cipher, some dude in front of me kept blocking my view, which was fairly annoying. Whenever I moved, he moved right in front of me. I believe he was trying to look at the lead singer, but still. So annoying! Anyway, Follow The Cipher definitely has some potential - but it wasn't fulfilled that night.

Then it was time for the main event. Amaranthe. A Danish/Swedish band that are notorious for being extremely entertaining live. They opened up with Maximize, which kind of set the tone for the show. It was going to be quite the party!

Sadly, my back gave up three songs in, so I was forced to leave.

If my back had stayed comfortable, I would have seen the entire show, which I read was one of the best shows they ever played.

So for the short three song concert I saw, Amaranthe scored high on my list. It was easily one of the best power metal shows I have been to in a long time.
