Did the McCanns do it?

Most have probably heard of the case of the missing child Madeleine McCann, who was 3-years old at the time in 2007. New interest in the case has been generated by a Netflix series currently popular. The story takes place in a fancy holiday resort in Portugal that would seem like a very safe place. The Netflix show certainly raises the possibility that the doctor parents may have accidentally killed her with medicine to make her sleep while they partied at night, and then tried to cover up her death by faking an abduction. There are also people who believe Maddie was abducted by a p*dophile ring and that her parents Gerry and Kate McCann are completely innocent. This case probably generated more media attention and scrutiny than any other missing child case ever. Wild rumors ran rampant and were printed by the media with glee, both in Portugal and the UK. Early police work was very questionable and the crime scene was contaminated, instead of being preserved. Dogs were brought in and one appeared to have found blood near the child's bed, and another dog alerted to the smell of a cadaver in the McCann's rental car. The McCann's definitely were guilty of leaving their kids alone, but were not far away and checked on them often, as did their friends. The point was made that this is not unusual in the UK.

One of the McCann friends says she saw a man carrying a child near the time Maggie was noticed missing. The series suggests her memory improved as time went on, but some of the details were in conflict.

The younger twins did not wake up during the time of the discovery that Maddie was missing,(despite a lot of commotion in their room) and Netflix seems to suggest they may have been given sleeping medication.

This case is also notable at a time of social media infancy. One online newspaper that was covering the story and allowing comments learned first hand how vicious and mean spirited people could be while making comments. It's wasn't long before the comments were disabled.

I tend to think the parents did accidentally kill Maddie and decided to cover it up.
dunno

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this case?
Do you think it will ever be solved?

The amount of money that already been spent on this case...wow
Hi Mimi maybe Netflix will donate their profit to helping solve the case.dunno
I have follow that case too, but I did not know the parents was doctors......and now, when I know it, I don't feel good with my tough, as I question now, how can a person, not known to the girl, come into the bedroom, not scaring her and making her to scream.....and if she had scream, then the twins should had for sure wake up.

My mind is telling me, that closest to the truth is, that the parents accidentally killing her.

who knows, but is it right to speculate ?. We won't ever know what really happened
I've just watched the first 5 out of 8 parts. It's not the best work I've seen on Netflix, but I learned a lot about the case I never knew. Hopefully the show will jog someone's memory.............well that and the £2.6million reward that is still there waiting to be claimed.

I wouldn't judge one way or the other. At the time I thought the Mcanns where treated very badly, by police.

Also some other people too, its was a shambles.

If that poor child is alive i weep for her for all she must have gone through and maybe still going through.blues
I don't think the parents did it. All they are guilty of is not being perfect parents. They left small children alone in the apartment and I'm sure they will never forgive themselves for that.

Whoever did take her probably watched a pattern emerging and knew when to strike. The other children sleeping through it wouldn't be unusual either.

I doubt she is still alive though. I think she'd have been killed and buried in a remote place as soon as the media and police were all over it. It was too highly publicised for anybody to take that risk.
Bekard looks like you and I were probably wrong. The parents acted strange at times but I don't know how you are supposed to act under such tragedy. dunno
EXRED not judging is always a good idea. The Portuguese police were a joke, and treated the McCann's very badly.
Biff- I think the McCann's acted like they wanted to let the story fade away. Netflix is the one who resurrected this story, and the parents refused be interviewed for the documentary, and didn't want their friends to cooperate either. It doesn't prove anything but still seems a bit odd. dunno
Miguel, it's simply not true they wanted the story to fade away, they've in fact kept the story in the UK papers from day one till now, also raised huge sums to hire private investigators when they thought the police weren't doing a proper job, I haven't seen the Netflix story but it could well be they didn't want anything to do with it because it's not accurate dunno
Hola Mischief I guess I didn't state it right. It's just the way Netflix presented the story that made them seem possibly guilty at first. But yeah the police mishandled the case from the get go, as they did another child abduction a little earlier fairly close by. But Kate didn't exactly cooperate with the police once she was named a suspect. She refused to answer 48 questions.
Zman it's for sure not everyone is a fan of the Netflix story. It's out there now and Netflix will take heat for any errors.
I don't know if I believe that....the police also said madelines dna was found in the trunk of their rental that they rented 25 days after madeline disappeared....this is what made them suspects....however what they failed to tell the media was that these were preliminary tests and they were still awaiting the final results...once they came in of course it turned out not to be madelines dna....so im skeptical about anything they have to say....I think they are merely trying to steer people away from their ineptness and back toward the mccans as if in some twisted they will be right and not the bumbling idiots they seem to be,,,,,cheers
Well M4 I finished the series. They repeated a lot of stuff and it could have been shorter without losing anything substantive. Also the use of the real people involved instead of actors made it seem less polished. However I think they treated the McCann's very fairly. After watching it all it seems pretty obvious they were not involved in Madeleine's disappearance. I was just left scratching my head confused at why the McCann's didn't cooperate with Netflix. It seems to me that all this renewed publicity would make it more likely that the case could finally get solved.

I just get the impression they were so concerned about their own image that they wanted to have the story written by their own PR people, and omit any details that portrayed them in an unflattering light. dunno
Maybe the way they were treated by the media when it turned on them left a bad taste in their mouths and they arent as trusting of it anymore.....wave
Here you go Jac.

The police treated Kate good, compared to Leonor Cipriano whose daughter Joana went missing near where Maddie did, a couple years earlier. Did they beat a confesson out of her?

Maybe after 30-40 years will be solved
