Kidneys

I bought a couple of kidneys this morning to cook for the dogs so I went on line to see how to cook them. I guess in America we don't eat kidney but they do in other countries. pffft

I'm soaking it in water with a little vinegar for a couple hours then I'll throw it in the instant pot. I'm going to mix it with carrot and quinoa for the little dogs.

I couldn't find a recipe that sounded good for human consumption. It seems like a boiled it the last time I cooked it and it made my home stink.

On the bright side it is super cheap. Hopefully it will turn into yummy dog food.

So you don't have steak and kidney pies in Murka? Can't believe a whole nation is deprived of that.
I don't think I've ever had it. But, I recall hearing something about kidney stew.
Perhaps in British literature. dunno

So, while you can probably delete the salt & pepper for the dogs,
perhaps this will be helpful to you;

Maybe you can boil them with Greg8's old socks...

doh
In America we eat kidneys, kidney pot pie, etc., so I don't understand why you pretend we don't.

That said I thin the tastiest are the condemned prisoner kidneys China sell on the net. Guaranteed to still be fresh when delivered. Fried in butter, mmmmm, good.

I love eating kidney/lambs fry & sheeps brains smitten
Biff that sounds like a load of old tripe
I prefer liver to kidneys. Kidneys have a odd taste on its own.

Steak and kidney pie. That is what I want for breakfast tomorrow. dancing

Hope the dogs enjoyed it.

The dogs loved it. (I almost wish they didn't) I still say Kidney is not popular in America hence why it is so cheap. Of course there are some people that eat it after all America is a Heinz 57 for the world. Kidney is not popular enough here to be sold "commonly" in the stores and I've NEVER seen it on a restaurant menu and I've been to lots of restaurants on both sides of this country.

I know I can't give the pooches too much at one time but they have a variety of meats, organs and veggies. The little Chi loves fruits too but Lucy not so much. I think Lucy is enjoying being weaned off canned dog food for Fay's dog food. Lucky little dogs. I never dreamed I would cook special for the dogs.

Now liver I do like but again I have to cook my differently than the dogs because I love it smothered in onions and the dogs can't have onions.

I'm a bit surprised my dogs like quinoa though. I can't find rice in my house but I had 3 or 4 different kinds of Quinoa. YUMMM
I married a woman whose family was from England a number of years ago , I had never heard if kidney stew and wished I hadn't , but they ate such as a normal English dish , let the dogs have it , I don't find it something humans should eat . thumbs down studecarprofessor
Nothing wrong with eating kidneys, liver or steak. Delicious. The first thing you eat is the liver of a kill when hunting. Fried on red hot coals in the veld.
laugh
Sorry but eating another's organ barf

Ugh - the smell sounds so disgusting that kidneys would be the last thing I'd be cooking, for pets or myself. barf
I've got very lucky pets. I had an ex that used to always say when he came back he wanted to come back as one of my dogs. If he did he is a lucky SoB.
