Which country has the most awesome military?

I have always been a huge military buff, but I hate the conflicts that the military enter. War is hell, and I remember when I went to the draft, I was placed in the Danish Navy (or whatever you want to call it).

It kind of made me think, back then. "Which country has the most awesome firepower?".. So I went and found out.

Number one is The United States army (naturally). The Pentagon is asking for $718 billion in its fiscal 2020 budget, a $33 billion or about 5 percent increase over what Congress enacted for fiscal 2019.

The $718 billion budget is comprised of a base budget of $544.5 billion, $9.2 billion for emergency border funding and $164 billion for overseas contingency operations funding, aka the war budget.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/12/the-pentagon-is-asking-for-a-colossal-718-billion-for-its-2020-defense-budget.html

$718 billion on defense. That's a ton of money! Meanwhile, homeless people roam the streets of the US cities, and schools are falling apart. There's also the Flint, Michigan crisis, with the water there. They can't find the money to fix those issues, but sure, have $718 billion for defense.

But what do you really get for that kind of money? Well, part of the money, $8 billion, will go to establishing SPACE FORCE. (ridiculous name, but waddaya gonna do). $72.4 million will go to etablishing the headquarters, while the rest will go to.. Something.. Space ships, probably. I still don't get WHY the world needs a Space Force. Hopefully they will use Space Force for protection against comets and asteroids. Am I just the only one thinking that?

Anyway, the rest of the budget will probably go to new aircraft carriers, (even though the ones they have now will last long into the future), tanks, smaller ships, helicopters, fighter jets, guns, ammo, intelligence and much more.

Sidenote, the USS Nimitz, which is my favourite name EVER for an aircraft carrier, will be replaced in 2022. So three more years for that ship, until she's retired.

Here in Denmark, the budget is $3.8 billion, so it's a RIDICULOUS amount of money,

Hejsan! I am not sure how long you lived in the US of A to make such an educated statement; but lemme tell ya, your description sounds as if it was war-torn Bosnia or Chechenya.

Isn't the US at an all time high on employment and stuff?

I mean, I'm more of a hospital and school kinda guy, more than air carrier guy. But aren't some of the best hospitals in the world in the USA? And also some of the best Universities?

Hmmmm.....what about David and Goliath ......no need for war, just two fighter clearing up a conflictpeace

I have been trained in the Finnish Army as a Commander for a commando unit.....and served in secret as an volunteer for 25 yeas, where I had to be ready in 24 hours, if needed......but if I look at what is going on in these days, there is no need for 24 hours anymore, you have to be ready in minutes.

As I was introduced to he secrets, I know, that the Army in Finland has planted in the ground, what ever around in whole Finland and as they are deep in the forest, nobody knows they are there, only the Army by it self.......so to take Finland, it is not going to be over still.....I was also trained to survive in the forest in hiding.

The strongest point in the Finnish war strategy is, to make so much long time harm, that nobody want to take Finland.....and we Finns are known to never give up, that's why Stalin did not want Finland either......

The most powerful and advanced Army, is not always the winner, as could be seen in the Vietnam war........and the Finnish strategy is in part very similar to what North Vietnam used in the Vietnam war.
Kanshe jag borde ha skrivit min commentar pa Svenska , nar har ar en annan Swedu acksalaugh
Still Ruotsi owns you at Hockey tongue
Just kidding just kidding!
Jooo, acksa, min svenska ar väldigt rostig og limitera(?).
What,

but in F1, Ruotsi is far back.....we have some hard guys there.rolling on the floor laughing
Gjorde min skolning pa Svenska och lagre nivan i Armen acksa......men hadde problem anda i Svenska.......jag ar perfekt i Finska.......men vi talar Svenska med mina Soner.
But do you know, a lot of people outside Finland don't like Salmiakki at all....here in Antigua the children in the school spit it out quickly, when my Sons gave it to themlaugh
Big budgets & huge firepower isn't always the answer, look at the Germans in Russia or the Americans in Vietnam dunno
You looks to know a lot about Finland rolling on the floor laughing
Z,

that's it.......that is why the bottom line in the Finnish war strategy has been so long that I know, in the line with what was the Vietnam strategy.
You appear to have learned what you think you know about America from Hollywood movies and the fake anti-American leftist press.

To be fair it's not just the fake anti-American leftist press, it's the PRESS period full of fake news.
Meanwhile, homeless people roam the streets of the US cities, and schools are falling apart.

And by the way the United States has the best college and university system in the world. Top students from all over the world compete with each other to get into our schools.

I already dealt with the so-called homeless people phony issue.
"And by the way the United States has the best college and university system in the world. Top students from all over the world compete with each other to get into our schools."

I can agree with that, if there is a little change "has one of the best college and University system"

But not the whole system, as there are very different levels of collages and Universities in USA......the best one are the most expensive also.

I know the whole system, as my one of my Son has his high school and in 5 different subjects a degree from USA......my other Son has his high school and in one subject a decree from USA.....but then in a second subject a Master from Switzerland and in a third subject a degree from Canada......My Daughter has high school and in one subject a degree from USA and in a second subject a degree from Finland.
Top ten countries for education.
South Korea
Japan
Singapore
Hong Kong
Finland
The United Kingdom
Canada
The Netherlands
Ireland
Poland

Strangely the USA is missing, so maybe some should check their facts before postingdunno
How about 6 of the top 10 universities in the world in the United States.

World University Rankings 2019
!/page/0/length/25/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats

And by the way, I notice not one of them is in China.
The mainland Chinese are all scrambling to US universities? dunno

I dunno the facts, just throw it out there grin
I went to one of the best colleges in the United States. Even years ago when I attended, there was a gigantic Chinese student body there. All of the wealthy and well connected families in China sent (and still do send) their children to be educated in the United States.
Rizlared,

USA is little complicated, when it has to do with the whole education system......there is from such a low, up to the very top and when they make the judging in these World checking, they put all together......but I know for sure, that USA has real top colleges and Universities......so it is from what stand point, you start to pick up the information.

If we look at Finland, yes, the average level is high, but the University education is very complicated there, for example, you can not take from the side any other subjects, you are completely blocked from it......if you educate your self in Biology, you can not take anything from Chemistry, all has to be Biology.....and you can only take subjects what is for one grade.
In USA you can take what ever subjects here and there, no matter, they are different and you can also take from different grades......so it is very flexible system.....like my Son has in 5 different subjects a degree, but still he took other subjects, like in Law, even he did not make a degree in it, but it helped him with his patents, as he can still prepare them by him self, when a real lawyer but it in the end together.

I really like the US system, as you can get out from it exactly what you want by your self.
Most Chinese go to the USA for education because its cheaper than Canada or Aus for example, those that can afford the higher costs send their Children to other countries. Canada is the most popular right now.
So tell me why China, with the largest population of any country in the world needs to send their kids to other countries to get a decent education?
Most Chinese go to the USA for education because its cheaper than Canada or Aus for example,

I see. So then not only does the United States have the best universities in the world, but it delivers them at the lowest cost to it's students.

All Hail Capitalism!
Rizlared,

that is not the truth, the best one is horrible expensive for outsiders.....I put US$ 1.2 million into my children's education and it was 15 years ago.....now it could be douple amount.
"Which country has the most awesome military?"

By awesome do you mean can kill the most people in the shortest amount of time?

In that case I guess it would be the USA then China and not forgetting The old USSR which I'm sure still has plenty of "big boys toys"

doh
And remember that the only time nuclear weapons have been used in combat was by the USA against two japanese cities in 1945 so putting another question into the mix would be which country will use nuclear weapons and should they be the most powerful nation in military might

confused
And remember that the only time nuclear weapons have been used in combat was by the USA against two japanese cities in 1945

Yes, and thank God we did.

It's estimated that the decision by US President Harry S. Truman to use atomic weapons to end the Japanese aggression and attempted world domination saved at least net 1.5 million lives as when they were used, it wasn't clear whether or not Japan was going to be defeated and even if it could be defeated it is estimated it would have taken years more and resulted in the loss of millions of more lives (both American, Japanese and others) if the Japanese mainland had to be invaded instead.
So the slaughter of 200000 innocent people was justified ?

Terrorism seems to have many names and faces

Funny how history is written and believed so easily by the victorious sigh
Doctor,

you are close to the truth, as a lot of foreigners, that have after education stay in USA, have been behind the USA success in many things......Elon Musk is a very visible example......as I remember he is born in South Africa.
Nanking,China,1937!
Whoo culd posiblee beat that?

There is no "greatest country" on this planet.
Bogart,

you really pick up the good points herethumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

On many blogs here, are very different opinions and it looks like many US people, don't know at all what is going on in other part of the World.....so when somebody from outside live in a country with an average higher level of standards and can see from outside, what is wrong in USA, then there are very hot outcries, that they don't know anything about USA.....
Like I said before, USA is from the lowest to the highest, but in average it make it lower than a lot of other countries......but you can know it only, if you look it from outside and from countries, that are average on a higher level.
