if you were born a boy or a girl, what are you now ...

There's some weird stuff happening in UK schools and the Daily Mail has got very overexcited about it. I know it's a long blog. You can skip to the last paragraph.

The link is at the bottom of the blog but because it's the Daily Mail, and wants to make you OUTRAGED, a bit of context first ...

There's an 8 year old boy who wants to be a girl. He wants it so badly that his parents are on board with it (man, I hope some serious counselling and thought has gone into this, but the Mail ain't saying) and he's going to be starting sex-change drugs now, before puberty. The school authorities know and are being fully supportive. They even had an organization called Mermaid come in to talk about it in general terms.

(Hang on, this is so common there's an organization?? oh yes. Government funded, AND a 500K lottery grant. Yeah, I was taken aback too wow)

The Mail angle is that the school vicar, while on board with the sex-change, has clashed with the school over one issue so badly that he's resigned. The kid's parents, and the school, want it to be as low-key and uncontroversial as possible. Victor (not his name) will, as Victoria, use the female loos and be called she, move along folks, nothing to see here.

The vicar wants all the other parents of all the other kids to be told. Well, we all know the average parent will be supportive, will tell their own kids to take it in their stride and not give it a second thought. roll eyes

I can see both points of view but then that is my curse sigh

Here's that link, prepare to be stirred to your boots, eh?

The Mail being the Mail strongly implies the school is doing it and the kid's own parents don't know. That is Fake News. Oh and turns out the drugs aren't changing his sex just delaying puberty. Well, that's the Daily Mail for you. Read by 23.5 million people every month, too.

Colour me puzzled that there are so many kids who, before puberty, are so convinced they are the wrong gender they know it is right to change. And is it right to change? What's so bad about spending childhood being androgynous, wearing jeans and t-shirts and not confronted with having to wear frills or have skinned knees ... I was a bit of a tomboy. In retrospect, man I would not be happy now to have been hurried along the road to make a decision to change to a boy. My younger brother, frankly, a bit of a sissy as a kid. Cried every time I knocked him over, that sort of thing. roll eyes Ditto.

wow

edited this blog to say I finally got round to looking at some statistics and turns out one baby in up to 2000 births is born with "atypical" genitalia. There's a comment on the 2nd page with more detail on that. That's a small percentage, sure, but in big populations a surprising number of people where the boy/girl line is definitely blurred.

Colors color our perception. No doubt. It's silly. Treat people equally and the issue vanishes. To be honest, I'm tired of being accused of a wrong in this new day and age. Can't we simply be nice and forgive us for a mistake in the event the wrong gender was assumed?
Palm, are you suggesting people be reasonable? wow

Biff, I was always a girl. I don't want to change. I know in real life I am more like a man. It's not fair to define a human being by a V or a P.

It's just that we have to fit in a society where norms are set, when each of us are uniquely different. Until that changes, weirder things will happen. I think.
Molly, I only know one (that I know of) who was a friend's cousin in a family of 4 boys and always knew she wasn't supposed to have been a boy. She can't even remember the first time she realized it, it was so early on. The family were ok with having a son who wasn't like the others, and never pressured her to conform, but absolutely horrified by her adult decision to change to being a girl. They never really accepted it, even my friend was shocked although they became much closer later when the shock wore off. She's been officially female now for over 30 years, married twice, never been troubled by her decision which she saw as a mistake being rectified.

But because I only knew of one, in all the thousands of people I have met or heard personal stuff about in my life, I thought it was fairly unusual, not as mainstream as this story indicates.
Biffy,

I remember my first year of school, I was 5 or 6 then. Sometimes I’d cry when little girls would suddenly kiss me.

When I got older and they got older, I’d sometimes cry when the ladies didn’t want to.

Darn it! frustrated
Can’t lose for whining, er winning.
Usha, you are completely right, we're all unique but I sometimes think that is less accepted than it ever was, if someone doesn't fit into a box with a label you can't let them be themselves, it is vital to create a new box with a new label, AND then find others that can be put into it. Don't be different. Weirder things indeed.

haha Robrt you reminded me of that complaint 'when I was a kid, kids were seen and not heard, now I'm older the kids talk all the time and I'm supposed to shut up and listen, I lost out both ends' laugh

Did you ever flirt with the idea of being a girl? My generation didn't, we knew boys had it all, more fun, more freedom, better toys, more interesting games and, when they grew up, more of a range of jobs with WAY better salaries. PLUS being able to pee standing up mumbling
"if you were born a boy or a girl, what are you now ..."

Man!

Robrt, you're a true nut laugh bouquet
Unfay, as a kid I just felt boys got to do all the exciting things. Their toys were more fun too.
Dolls and dresses? Meh..not for me.
Luckily my poor mother gave up on her idea of a girly girl early on laugh
lots of different types about now ...where they were all my life I don't know
Biff,

no problemswave
I’ve always been a girly girl shimmy batting flirty
Oh that!!! blushing blushing rolling on the floor laughing

And that was such a long time ago, Biff!!

Was in Macau to visit some friends not too long ago. Thought I changed my CS location just for fun grin I first joined CS, somewhere in late 2011 or early 2012, while I was still living there.
Havnt read any of the comments but my take is that if one has been born with the necessary male tool, why dont they give medication to endorse that rather than suppress nature or change one into a poofter? jmo
My half brother became my half sister. The orders from my father and other brothers are to make no effort with him at all, but I can't see me taking any notice of that.
Reverse that. My half sister became my half brother, it's confusing even for me.
....hmmmm.... maybe parents should be a bit more carefull about telling their kids; "You can be Whatever You Want!!!!" dunno grin

cool wine
Chesney, hey, I think you'd be a good brother to have if there was defending to be done grin Wish you'd mentioned what age she was when she knew she should have been a he?
Red, oh yeah I'd hate to be growing up now and either forced to rock a doll or be counselled for wanting to tear around with the lads. Up to reading this story I had been thinking girls had way fewer restrictions than when I was a kid - girls routinely play football and rugby, for example, unthinkable back when mammoths roamed the earth!

Do like your gym pics, go you!

And I'm NOT saying, before anyone jumps on me, that I think kids are being forced into gender slots. But if schools are watching anxiously for kids suffering from gender anxieties, there must be conversations with teachers and parents and school counsellors happening that were undreamed of in the past.
Viking, rolling on the floor laughing now don't sit on the fence here haha

As for parents saying you can be anything you want ... well, it seems now you can grin

Len, yup, adults switching back and forth, or staying ambiguous, makes picking someone up in a bar look a very risky business too ...

laugh
I have given this much thought. The gray area seems to be spreading at a rapid rate. At the same time, humor and fun seems to be shrinking at a rapid rate. I foresee a world population of boring people with assorted clothes in their closets without doors.
@ Red,,,,rolling on the floor laughing thumbs up beer
You are really Diamond Brightdoh
Bif,

Diamond is right about the Physical part and DNA in it self, as you are also, when you come up with the fact about DNA......but we are not only a product of DNA, as it is still only a very, very little part in our self.

There is like a big MIND, what is ALL and there is a Spiritual whole, a mechanism, that are directing all the Physical.

I bring in here some information about Bruce Lipton, who is very much Internationally recognised multi subject Scientist....as is My Son too.

Bruce Lipton was an Atheist, but by realizing, that the Mind has the power of the Material, he turned to an ALL God believer, that we Humans are in that God too......He use the word God, but as he make Humans also capable to create, I am sure he means that hugh ALL, the mind that has all and everything as possibilities in a creation process.....that is why he also think, that we can by using our mind, create what ever life for our self.......but it is not limiting us from creating what ever else too.

He talk about eternal Spirit only and not coming up with a Soul, but it is understandable, as he don't have enough experience about the non ordinary side.......but he is exactly still in the right direction.

Bruce Lipton has study Quantum Physics, Biology and Medicine....very similar to what my Son has degrees in, that is Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Medicine.

Why Bruce Lipton understand, the creation process and what the mind over matter is, is just because he has stude 2 of the mind steps of creation of life.....as creation and also creation of life, start from Physics, then to Chemistry and finally to Biology.

So what ever DNA is working for, it is only the Physical part and if it is about Gender, it is only about the Physical part.....the real power in Gender mystery is coming from the Spiritual part, from the Soul to the Mind and no matter how much we are Masculine in our Physical part, we can still feel our self as Feminine.....the Mind by the Soul and from the Spiritual power are coming with the fact, what kind of Gender or Genders between Genders we feel as our own self.

We Humans know still only a drop of ALL, but we have got a good step forward, if we understand, we are one with ALL and that it is just endless, with trillions time trillions of possibilities and much more and that we are below the same as what is above.

But it is because some, at least, parents, will react exactly as you did, DR, that I can see why the vicar would have clashed with the school. People are entitled to their opinions at a distance, but this kind of debate happening all round the school, "my mom thinks you are wrong" "my dad says man up and accept it" cannot be helping. Maybe the vicar hoped to head off reactions by explaining the full circumstances and probably they are convincing, but eish, what an upheaval for this kid to be going through anyway without doing it in a full glare of publicity.

It might have been better to simply move to another area and let "Victoria" start at the new school as a girl without all the hoopla.

Trumptrumptrumptrumptrumptrump boring, divisive, monotonous, AND POINTLESS. Not a single reader for or against will change their views by a hairsbreadth no matter how much bigotry is trumpeted but the ugliness and hate displayed in the comments are certainly changing the way members view each other, destroying casual banter, wrecking the place.

Mods – is this really what you want the blogs to be? Really? I'm posting this comment on every trumptrumptrumptrumptrump blog raised in the last week to make a point. Gee I'm sorry if it bores anyone.
