Never again

I watched few news clips and felt à sense of sadness in my heart. One in particular. An old veteran very emotional. I thought for a bit. Will they ever forget the horrors of war?

Those who fought, those who gave their lives, those whose lives changed for ever. I bow to you all, whom we owe our freedom to.

Thank you.! bouquet

And pray that we will never see such horror ever. peace

Usha, very thoughtful and thankful!hug

Like you, I am very thankful to those men and women who gave their lives for our freedom!thumbs up
@usha123

Absolutely. And praying is well and good, but acting in a way that seeks to maintain our freedoms, too. We are in a new age. Where the battles (and attempted propaganda and subversion of speech) are being played out across different mediums (many of them online). We have to ensure a fair playing field, with real transparency regards how these tech giants act, and a fair accessible market for would-be competitors in the digital space.
This is in no way intended to diminish the heroism of D Day...

Acknowledgement is due the Russians on the Eastern Front where 75% of the Wehrmacht was destroyed prior to D Day.

So many of the war vets need volunteers in their communities, I hope people reach out.
"The war will be won or lost on the beaches. We will have only ONE chance to stop the enemy and that's while he is in the water...The first 24 hours of the invasion will be decisive...it will be The Longest Day."

General Eisenhower's D Day message...

My dad was a WWII USA army soldier. He was as they refer to “Island hopping.” He didn’t really like talking about his experiences there, although he did tell me and my brothers a few things about his war days at times.

He saw lot of battle action, injured twice, was honored with many medals. I truly appreciated him and all army soldiers more so after seeing the movie, Saving Private Ryan, at the movie theatre with all its sounds and graphic scenes.

And that, as disturbing scenes as it was, was just a movie. I can’t even imagine what soldiers actually experience in action. I sincerely and proudly salute them all.
Jim, I know you have served too. Long live you young man. bouquet

Fay, agree. handshake
Will they ever forget the horrors of war? I doubt it Usha. I have a very close friend who was a Vietnam vet and Memorial Day is difficult for him and certain songs from the era stimulate memories...and some well done films, he has told me.

He had no choice but to join. One story he shared...and this was by no means the worst of the worst I am sure (he alluded to some absolutely horrible situations)...but he said him and his team had to jump out of helicopters and catch tops of trees....then climb down them.

I don't think anyone really wins with war, unless you are making money from it and that is your only concern.

....agree with you...hopefully we will never see such horror ever.

But...unfortunately, there are still stories in today's news...from what I hear...in Sudan.

Sad stuff.
Jim, we have to hope for.

Will check the video later. Thanks.bouquet

Its a shame that China and Russia were not included in D day celebrations, they lost the most of all nations.
Daears, thumbs up
Agree, but may be because they didn't take part in Normandy landing.thumbs up

Welcome to blogs Butcher. bouquet
Yep China and Russia didn't have much to do with D day, but they played a big part in softening up the germans and japanses, not including China and Russia is drawing a line in the sand and saying who the enemy of the western countries are.
Hmmm...that is a good observation Butcher. thumbs up

China and Russia did not participate in D day. doh

TRUMAN in 1941 stated “if we see that Germany is winning, we ought to help Russia, and if Russia is winning, we ought to help Germany, and that way let them kill as many as possible.”

Putin has become very dangerous and hostile to Europe and the United States.
I had three uncles and a father in WW2 . They all made it back with grim and tragic stories, lucky to be alive. The event profoundly affected all of them in good and bad ways the rest of their lives.thumbs up
Yep,Butcher,Russia sure softened up Japan by jumping in just before WWII ended!
It is still known as "The Great Patriotic Softening"!laugh
They didn't got into the Game until August 1945,when they declared War on Japan!
