A blast from the past

I took a trip down memory lane when I looked at some very old threads. Those who have been around here as long as I have will no doubt remember some of these members who are no longer active on this site such as;

Time marches on... some members realized time spent on dating sites didn't work to find a mate. Facebook became the substitute for interaction.

FB is scary. I had a FB acct a while back, totally fake, name, age, location. I did it just to see what all the BS was about. I made the mistake of interacting with one person and before I knew it I was getting swamped with a hundred suggested connections to other people. I started deleting them 1 by 1 but i couldn't keep up with it so I had my son delete the acct for me.

Ooby, FB is ok if you control your connections, only friends of friends can contact me and I use it to keep up with friends and family all over the place - but then I'm a rolling stone so have a very scattered family and bunch of friends laugh

biff, you missed it. Many came here looking to find a mate and after 10 or so unsuccessful years gave up hope. Being on Facebook is a different venue. It's all the fun of interaction without having to 'think about' finding a mate.

I already stated in my profile why I'm here.

Ooby, I recognise a lot of their names but don't know anything about them.

Except Glat, I remember her last posts (if they weren't berating Pedro laugh ) were about the fact that she had met someone on here, was giving up her job and moving to Spain to live with him. Hopefully all went well with those plans..

Yeah, I came here when my GF's dad found religion and decided to meddle in his daughters private life. He "suggested" she should get married instead of living in sin. She wanted to please her father so she started putting pressure in me to tie the knot. This grew in intensity until one day she jumped on my lap and gave me half an ultimatum. She demanded we get married but never said the "or else". I had no desire to go down that road for a third time and said so. She started crying inconsolably and I felt the best thing was for me to leave til she calmed down. 3 days later I got an email that said "Don't come around anymore." Did I mention that she lived 65 miles away from me and didn't drive? I thought the best way to get over her was to meet someone else. That why I joined this site.
Eventually she met a macho Mexican guy from LA who lived nearby and he moved in with her.

I remember a few of those names. There is one I always remember as she was the first person to contact me and welcome me to the site - Venusenvy. Fantastic genuine lady.

Once you leave for a long time - you should never come back.

I made that mistake once and will never repeat it again.
