Possibly visiting the New York next year!

I have a few friends in the US, and I have always wanted to visit, so I went on Google to see, how cheap it would be for me to take a round trip in May 2020.

$473. Not that expensive, if I am honest. I have written to one of my friends there, to see if she would be able to entertain me at that time. I am just waiting to hear back from her. Or maybe I will do what I have always thought of doing - go to the US on the 1ts of July and then leave again on the 8th. That way I get to see how the US celebrates their independence day. But for now, I will focus on the 1st of May 2020, since I can't see dates further than May 2020. It gives me just under 11 months to save up for spending money to bring with me. If I use 100 dollars per day, that means I need to save up at least 800 dollars in total. 1000, just to be on the safe side. I also need an ESTA, but that isn't expensive. I might go for that next month.

The place I will be flying to, hopefully is New York. I want to have a slice of NY style pizza, as they say it's the best in the World. I have only had Danish, British and Portuguese pizza, so I look forward to try it. If it's as good as they say it is, I might become so addicted, that I will move to New York on a permanent basis, lol.

I don't need a visa, because Denmark is a part of the Visa Waiver Program, meaning that I can stay up to 90 days in the US without a visa. But for now, I will just be there for one week. If I love it, I can always come back.

Brush up on your Spanish. You'll need it.
You definitely want to come to New York. It is without a doubt the greatest city in the world.

Unfortunately a few years ago a communist mayor was elected and he's doing everything he can to make the city worse. You'll find a lot more homeless people and panhandlers on the streets then you did several years ago, and the streets not quite as clean as they were, the result of his socialist policies, but it will take more than just one crummy mayor to destroy the greatest city in history. He will be history, but New York will live forever.

And yes you will definitely find the best pizza in the world in New York City. But make sure you go to the right place to get it. Don't go to a Pizza Hut or Domino's!

Depending on what part of the city you are staying in you might have to take a Subway or some other transportation to get to these places. But here are my three recommendations if you want to have the best pizza you've ever eaten.

If you're in it for the pizza and not the decor, then Di Fara on Avenue J in Brooklyn is the undisputed world champion of Pizza. It's a nondescript spartan storefront that looks like nothing special. But the pizza is something you can only dream of. It's traditional New York Pizza at its very best. Be prepared to wait on line especially if it's a weekend... Sometimes the line is very long. This is one of the most popular pizza places in New York. Once you eat there you will really understand the New York experience.

Next is Lombardi's on Spring Street in lower Manhattan. Best thin crust Neapolitan pizza in the world hands down. It's also the oldest pizzeria in the United States.

And finally, if you're looking for something more contemporary, there's Kesté on Bleecker Street in Manhattan. This is a newer place that does more contemporary pizzas that are incredibly good. It's very tiny but comfortable.

I'd recommend trying all three. You won't regret it.

There's one more super special pizza place that only local New Yorkers know about ... It's top secret so I can't tell you where that one is. You have to be a member in good standing in the local New Yorker club to have access to it. Maybe someday for you… it's the equivalent of Pizza heaven.

If you can come over the July 4th holiday, the city will be very crowded, but you will also have an opportunity to see fireworks. I'd say it depends on what you like. If you want it less crowded come in May or June. If you like the crowds come during the holiday. Whatever time you come, there will be many people there from every part of the planet. New York is the cultural melting pot of the world. There is no place else like it.

it may take some time to get used to New York City. It's probably unlike anything you've ever experienced. But once you get bitten by the New York City bug, you will never want to leave. There is something magical and special about this place that cannot be duplicated.
Oh and one more tip. A little known secret about New York is that the state consists of a lot more than just New York City.

In fact, just a short drive from the city gets you to some of the best ocean beaches in the world on Long Island or some of the biggest and most beautiful wilderness areas in the United States in the Catskill and Adirondack mountains in upstate New York. In fact, astonishingly, I believe the Adirondack area might be THE largest wilderness area in the United States... an astonishing fact for a state that also contains the largest city in America. There is reason so many people live in the state of New York. It has it all. New York City is just a few percent of the land area of New York.

So if you have time, I highly recommend exploring other parts of the state of New York and New England. There is so much that is unique and special there besides just New York City.
I am not spending the whole week in New York City. I am being picked up at the airport by my friend, and we are gonna drive to Troy. It's a three hour drive (according to Google). If my friend isn't available, then I'll just see if I can go somewhere else. Like maybe Vegas or something. Maybe go to Nashville or possibly to Dallas. It all depends on what my friend says. But so far, I am definitely gonna go to the US :).

I might spend a few hours in NYC, just to say I have experienced the city. But yes, it looks absolutely stunning, and I cannot wait to go there!
Okay... Troy is in "upstate" New York, but not the nicest part. Nevertheless, you will get to see a little bit of another part of New York on your drive there. I hope you will be able to eat at one of these pizza places during your few hours in NYC. If you truly love pizza it's something you won't forget. Unfortunately a few hours isn't nearly enough to explore all the great places in the city, but hopefully it will give you a chance to get the flavor of it at least.
Funny I've been all over the US except for New York City. I've never wanted to go until I just read Diamond's description. Shoot I may have to put that on my bucket list too.

I hope you go to that city and have a blast. Saving for a trip is half of the excitement for me.
