Mix emotions

Last Tuesday was another day for me to get my unemployment card stamped. Just like last month, the counter staff, after handing me back my card told me to go to the 2nd floor meaning I have to browse and look for a job among the listings. The lady did her job so well that at the end of more than an hour of going thru all the listings she was able to finalize an interview for Friday. Yesterday I went to the company and met 2 other female Japanese applicants. Guess what? I'm taken in although for the first month I'll be in the day shift before transferring to the night shift. The place is quite near my apt. I believe I can handle the job well since we were toured in the factory after the interview. But just sad that the timing wasn't right. I'm booked for Manila this week and has a return flight on Sept 2. At first I was asked when can I start working with them. I told them September but when the other 2 ladies answer they're willing to start on Aug 19, (Today until Aug 18 is Japan's obon holiday)I was pressured to say so, too. Really happy for I won't have to milch the Jgovt and sad for not being able to make my travel plan. I could have made my travel earlier!sigh

Congratulations starting your new job. cheering
You can go to Manila any with experience of your job. thumbs up peace teddybear
Hi Tatami
It should not really be mixed feelings. The job comes first.scold But I'm glad for your sake that you got the job.

Real mixed feelings is like when you see your worst enemy going over a cliff in your brand new and still uninsured car. grin
I'm one that would say the job comes first but it is a shame to miss your trip, however you can always go another time. Good luck on your new job, I hope you like it.
@Timothy, thanks for your congratulations. Even if I decide to stay permanently in the Phils, it would hard for me to find a job. I may think of doing small time selling but I won't really do that anymore. What with my age! If ever I'll just live and make do with what I have.
@Cat, happy to hear from you. And thanks for the humor.
@Unfazed, the 3 months I was out of work, I gained weight. Iam now 44kgs. I still have to do some adjusting since it is the first time that I'll be handling 2 lines. Each worker in that factory seem to handle 2 lines as per the touring we had. Nevertheless, I believe I can handle that. My son is planning to visit Manila this December. As both of us have a job, we can only spend a maximum of 10 days. It's a pity to have spend around ¥40,000 for the ticket and not able to travel. Just hope that the early employment allowance I'll be receiving will more than compensate that money I lost. Thanks for your extra rare visit.

And to @Ex, @Timotie, @Cat, @Unfazed and to the rest who took time to read and felt that mixed feelings I had, the good wishes for my new job and those who shared the sighs of not getting to use the ticket I paid for, thanks everyone. I just hope I'll stay in this factory till I get 65.grin bouquet heart wings teddybear
Hey Tata,
Dont worry too much cos the longer you wait to visit your home country the more you will appreciate it. Im glad you got a job.wine bouquet
@Luke, just a little bit sad. I haven't been to my country for 5 yrs now. I do have to attend to some docs re title. Half of what I'd bring is already packed. I have plans on what to do in my spare time and what and where to eat. I miss our doggos. Even bought some goodies for them. I'll just have them delivered. I thought it's a good timing since the exchange rate is better than last month.sigh Thanks for cheering me up though.bouquet
Being old isn't quite the disadvantage it was because not many employers take a longterm interest in you. Loyalty isn't rewarded in the modern economy. How confident are you of finding the same or better job next month? One job is scarcely the security or the opportunity that it was.
@Chesney, yes there is a great disadvantaged for someone in her 60's more so because I'm not that proficient in Nihonggo. That's why on the practical side, I "accepted" the job. I even thought I'd make another trip in October since my unemployment insurance would end up in Nov. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.bouquet
T - congratulations on getting the job.
I hope it works out very well for you and you get more vacations later.
