Western psychiatry----medical cosmatologists almost all.....

I've ranted a plenty on the sordid topic. But I bet a few folks here have had their own run ins with these dilettantes. Above all, when one of them chooses to assume the title of "neuropsychiatrist", turn about and don't stop running. Almost none have spent any time in formal Neurology training, and it's usually a ruse to order expensive unhelpful lab work and imaging studies, then to overmedicate.

Quite, C. But even now that I've cut back on my medications?
1) Come up with psychotropic concoctions.

2) Fabricate a disorder to be treated (read "mask symptoms") by the concoctions.

3) Use TV ads to sell people on being afflicted with a fabricated disorder(s)*.

4) Script Docs write Rx's writing & make fortunes for Big Pharma & themselves.

*Example - TV ads selling folks that they're afflicted with "Social Anxiety Disorder" (formerly known as "shyness") and they must consult their Health Care Provider to get an Rx to treat it, rather than relying on old fashioned non-Rx "cures" drinking:

Selling Rx's to treat shyness - I'm NOT making that up scold
Internet ads are also used to profitable effect -

Yep, Micman. And their diagnostic Bible, the DSM, now in it's 5th edition, has a few hundred defined categories of "illnesses". Ueberfine gradations of real impairment, with typically only mild diagnostic or treatment bases. The problem basically rests on how much more complex is the human brain, than other organ systems. Also much more diffficult to study with any degree of validity. The training, while improving, as they now have to show competency in 6 types of talk therapy, is still far below the tasks called for, both in practice, and research. There was a time when these trainees didn't even have to do a year of general medicine (internship) after medical school before only three years of Psychiatry. Now they do, but most still only get a few months of exposure to Neurology. All the things you raise are still of concern. Rarely, one does meet
a well trained Psychiatric medical doctor, humble at the art, ever learning-from other docs and her patients, a natural great listener, aware of the importance of family/culture/religion in emotional struggles AND remedies, how life style plays a huge roll as well, and lots more.
