Internet security and privacy is my speciality.

I spent 4 years in an internet forum learning about internet security and privacy, learning where to get all the best apps and programs for free, I have a media player that can play virtually any format, I also learned a lot about becoming invisible on the internet and doing some things that are regarded as illegal, a good VPN is important especially on sites like facebook because hackers are rife on there, a good VPN is also very good for preventing hackers from getting into your computer, mine gives out a false IP address, I have a paid for version of a good antivirus too, one that I didn't pay for, not trying to brag here but I thought it very important to stay safe on the internet at the time I started learning all this stuff, and I truly beleive I couldn't have been more right about that, the importance of keeping certain files stored on a flash drive is also of major importance, especially in the event of being hacked, gives you the option of being able to replace lost files on your computer after being hacked and the hackers simply can't get at it because it's stored on a flash drive not conected to your computer.

With all the precautions I have in place being hacked would have zero effect on me because I have a flash drive with an operating system ready and waiting to install, the knowledge I have could be described as priceless but I beleive you can never be too careful so to have a backup plan like mine in place is also priceless.
Last you said, you will teach me...?
Do you mean you need to know how to put an operating system on a flash drive?
I'm not into technical, just software of all sorts of business systems.

My kids do the technical...

I bet they're better than you...

Their father was also into technical...

They tried software, but found it too boring...

Can you do programming, and what goes with it?

Create a full business system, etc
No, I can't do all that but I have a good friend, a computer technician who can.
Computer Technicians don't do software programming...
I wouldn't know about that, I'd have to ask him, I've even taught him some stuff he didn't know though.
Like what?

Can you program?
In what?
Stuff about internet security, privacy and good free programs and where to get them.
Oh...
You borrow them... I program them...
We have good guys that does security,
I would have preferred knowing myself,
but has never had time...
No lol, because I know the best sites to get them I download and install them, I don't borrow them.
I'll give you an example, the best media player on the market, VLC media player can play virtually any format and it's completely free and you can get it here:https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
That makes you a technician...
and those things download loads of viruses with them,
even though it says it hasn't...
and you don't know about them...
Then one day...
CRASH...
VierKaseHoog…
What do you do for a living...?
I was a legal drug pusher, and needle torturer, destroyer of young minds of mush, and fake scientist, VERY fake. Does this help?
Go ahead...play to the website...you're Not playing to me...
Thanks. A most redundant, valid and useless piece of advice. I'll try my best to obey.
Absolutely not lol, that's why I spent 4 years learning all that, and during that process I also learnrd the best sites to get it all from, the most trusted sites, here's a site for example not to trust for getting free apps, softonic.com, if you get anything from there it's highly likely you will either get malware in the program or a virus.
Vierkaesehoch if you want a good site for creating complex passwords try this one, having good passwords is also a good preventative action to protect from hackers.
Good info. Thanks, TG.
No problem Vierkaesehoch, any information I give out on this site I guarantee to be good and useful.
I understand the 2 TB USB sticks that you can purchase for as little as $3 these days that Mr Chang makes are actually Solid State Drives they represent excellent value..wave
I can access the site you showed Ghosts.. -->>

Thanks for the link..

I use Surfshark VPN .$47.76 every two years. .. it gives me access to Netflix AND it BLOCKS ads, trackers and Malware..

I also use Win 7 still one of the best Windows OS after that a user looses the control of how your computer functions.. I, _myself_, installed an SSD in my laptop... makes it more stable.. and have all my pictures in important stuff on my external HD..
I have, just to make sure, another Malware program - MalwareBytes and regularly use CCleaner to check my HD ...

Mr Thir13en_Ghosts ... you said you learned for 4 years... but in fact one never stops learning with computers... tomorrow things may be different from what you knew yesterday.. I call myself 'puter savvy' but never an expert..

Cheers..bouquet
oh yeah.. I also have a WIN10 OS on another laptop and I hate it... and hardly use it... dunno
Absolutely Chambella, since leaving the forums I have continued to learn even if at a slower pace, I am also using an SSD drive, faster than the usual FAT32 system, I also agree that malwarebytes is a good free antimalware program even if it is the free version, it is designed not to clash with other antivirus programs, in fact it's designed to run alongside them.
Cool Thir13en_Ghosts .. oh I also use surfshark on my phone...
I love Windows 7. Now I have Windows 10 and HATE it. I'm glad I'm retired cause my job consisted of typing about 7 hours a day in Windows 7.

Has anybody ever told the OP he looks like Robert DeNiro.dancing
Well that's certainly a compliment, thank you secretagent09, I'm doing ok with windows 10, it's similar to windows 7 in a lot of ways, for quite a long time while using windows 10 I really missed my windows 7.
I did too windows 7 I mean but have 10 for long time now, changed laptops for reconditioned one and now I keep getting 2 long notice to say windows will expire without some number confused have not got a clue. I may buy new basic laptop in Jan sales and smash this one to smithereens laugh laugh only way to get rid of bugs, laugh this one does not even have web cam. I will buy with web cam and windows 10 installed with the Microsoft programme too. peace
I was just wondering, do you use Recuvva? I've only tried it once and it recovered my files but the thing was I wasn't able to select any individual file or folder to recover and so I sat there thinking there must be a way to select certain files, otherwise the program seems pretty useless.
Speaking of security ...... I'm concerned about that little window on the top of my computer that is used for skype.

I saw a tv special one time that said people can hack into that viewer and watch what you are doing. I winder if that's true. I put a piece of black tape over my viewer.uh oh
I wouldn't know about that secretagent09 but it wouldn't come as any surprise, I certainly wouldn't trust any app on facebook, anything seems to be hackable on there.
Thank you Mr. DeNiro gigglewave
in reply to EXRED recent post, when you computer was refurbished they didn't put the correct Win 7 install details. You can locate the correct details providing the laptop has original Microsoft sticker attached to the back (bottom) of the laptop.
On first Windows operating system the sticker on the bottom of your laptop was entered and that is still hidden in the BIOS Setup probably when it was refurbished they entered another version of windows operating system, at very least used an incorrect Product Key.

Its possible to purchased install disks on eBay that will format the hard drive and allow you enter the correct Product Key to resolve the issue your having..
my response directed to Chambella
Re:
"MalwareBytes and regularly use CCleaner to check my HD ..."!

I also sourced free version of Panda Dome (Spanish program) to protect Malwarebytes program files.
Panda Dome was the only Anti-Virus program i could find that met my needs.
The paid version Panda Dome wouldn't install as it needs Window thief Gates updates to back computer up on Panda Dome Cloud Server and therefor would not install on my laptop but the free version does, works fine.
I to use CCleaner also Little Registry Cleaner program, which does good job cleaning registry.

cheers

RE Recuvva correct spelling is Recuva
Its a good recovery program its works so I'm not sure why you couldn't get the files back

Speccy is another really good program Piriform also put out
worth a look >>>>
Rob no number just a white sticker with service number. Thanks for info though. I could take t to a shop but they would charge £30 maybe cheaper than new laptop.

If I just keep deleting these pop ups will laptop still work as it does now. I have even turned pop ups off in settings. As well as history gathering but now. I see new desk top windows and all my recant views and on here too . Whats that if it is not history gathering dunno
I also had that and I think the problem arose (not 100% sure) because i didn't tell Recuva where to recover the files to before starting the recovery process. May be wrong was long time ago but think that was the problem.
A couple of years ago used the program to recover pictures on an SD Card and it worked Ok. Once upon a time a long time ago i shelled out and purchased a good program called Zar and that did a good job but i lost the rego information or something, so turned to Recuva
Try running recuva on your recycle bin or somewhere and tell it where to recover the files to before you let it loose...
Merc, I have a pop up blocker add on in my browser, blocks pop ups and pop under intrusive ads, it's called poper blocker, it's excellent.
If I was to run Recuvva on the recycle bin I'm not sure if that would work because of the recycle bin size limit.
