I personally applaud her activism in an attempt to slow, or halt global climate change and she also
deserves congratulations on her recent award.
Unless a 16 year old girl is committing crimes, I do not understand why people would be against her.
Her concern for the planet is a very positive aspect.
It seems that perhaps some are jealous of the attention she has garnered.
That is especially pathetic, when coming from adults.
Thanks for your comments, including the word "schills"
She should be an inspiration to all children, especially those who have similar afflictions.
Also, what she had to say in that interview, argues strongly, that no one is "controlling" her strong will.
2009 Right Livelihood Laureate David Suzuki says:
“Adults are focused on the economy while the biosphere is going up in flames. Thunberg has not gotten bogged down by trying to justify the target with economic reasons. Instead, she has focused on the need to reduce emissions above all economic and political “realities” that are the reasons nothing has been done so far.”
Thunberg was speaking for a new generation of concerned activists when she issued a call to action to French parliamentarians in July 2019:
“You don’t have to listen to us. But you have to listen to science. And that is all we ask, to unite behind the science.”
Assuming, of course, it can be done - which it almost certainly cannot...
Observational (NOT computer modeling) support of what he's describing ...
I've spent time with folks of Greta's Gen Z ( ominous, eh?) at Extinction Rebellion events & such.
Many think they're going to Save The Planet.
Others are convinced we're in irreversible, locked in Near Term Extinction.
A comparison may be made to people in Elizabeth Kublet-Ross's various stages of dying.
Greta & the Extinction Rebellion folks might be in the Anger/Bargaining stages.
I often wonder if these posters are really just posturing a devil's advocate position. specifically for the buzz they get from the attention they seek, especially the more prolific posters.
If not, someone will dispute what's said or ask for citations.
Example -
I posted a comment on Fay's Everglades Pythons blog stating they shouldn't be eaten because they're laced with mercury - perhaps several times more so than any other living creatures on Earth. Hardly a contentious assertion, so I thought.
I got challenged on it (by a supposedly smart Leftie BTW - go figure ), though anyone could've done what I did - search ... pythons everglades mercury.
Not difficult. Quite easy, actually.
Can't imagine how such folks functioned using a library's card catalog
If there's a choice between a site & vid, I'll go with a vid.
It's a personal thing.
I'm an audio-visual guy going clear back to school days. Any audio-visual day was a good day
Looking through the comments - Big winners appear to have been airlines & Spain's tourism industry.
But in that specific presentation he gave a concise explanation of the Aerosol Masking Effect.
It's explained in more depth in the 2nd vid - should folks want observational evidence.
The Aerosol Masking Effect isn't the only reason to conclude Earth may be in a state of Inevitable Near Term Human Extinction (INTHE).
CH4 venting from subsea permafrost in the East Siberian Arctic Shelf (ESAS) may be the ultimate planetary kill switch.
And Humanity needn't beat itself with an Angst stick over THAT!
WE didn't put 100s/1,000s gigatons of the stuff under subsea permafrost & a mere 165' (50 m) water column.
This provides info (observational! evidence) on developments in that region ...
It also discusses the difference between the "more sanguine" and "hair on fire" types of climate observers.
This report presents updated observations from a very recent expedition ...
Assuming!! the planet might be saved by a worldwide commitment to what Greta's demanding, does anyone SERIOUSLY believe it'll actually be done?!
No.
I cannot foresee humanity meaningfully turning things around any time soon...
... even if it could or wanted to. Which it probably can't nor doesn't.
I'm not hating on Greta.
She appears to be having a quite successful career launch as a documentary film maker & I wish her well.
But hoping she'll somehow SAVE THE PLANET! is expecting far too much of her.
"The Planet's not going anywhere. WE ARE!"
