Chinese Buffet...

Another frustrating but productive day at my nephew's (rented) house clearing furniture before the end of the month. We had a truck stop by for donations. They were picky and only took the prime items... metal framed computer desks with glass tops, wine fridge, bicycle and one table. That left lots of other things. My niece called up some social media link like Craig's list and one woman came by for the baby tricycle and some laundry bins. A young couple took 2 parsons tables, carpet and will return tomorrow for some mirrors and possibly another table.
It was late and my wife suggested sushi. I found a place via GPS on the way home listed as a Chinese Buffet with sushi. While most of the food was tasty, I didn't like how everything was in a glaze sauce. I avoided some foods as my guess was they were sugar coated. The fried Pollock was really good and so was the sirloin pieces.

Priced less than the buffet we normally go to, it was an okay experience... at first!

Mentioned in a few of my blogs is the danger of MSG as 'we don't get along' very well.
Getting home wasn't an issue... staying awake was. I crashed in the chair and later landed on the bed. I wasn't alone in the ill effects as my wife crashed on the sofa. We both had headaches and dizziness. It's more than 5 hours later and we haven't recovered.

Knowing what I know now, it's amazing this restaurant got 4 out of 5 stars on Yelp!
I don't have a Yelp! account... but if I did my review would probably read: Dinner and vertigo $11.95.

More and more Restaurants in China/Hong Kong are placing signs outside saying "no MSG used". The government has not banned it (yet) but is sending a clear message nationwide that MSG is not healthy and should be avoided.
You rarely see a true buffet style restaurant in China as the people have still not grasped that you can go back and refill your plate lol, at one function I attended there was a free buffet, as soon as the announcement was made the food was ready 200 people made a dash for the loaded tables and within minutes all the food was gone, but the amount of food on every plate was huge and impossible to eat it all, such wastage has made buffets impossible to manage. In Shanghai, there is a western restaurant that does a Sunday buffet, but the cost is twice what one would expect to pay, if you eat all your food you get half your money back when you leave laugh
Next time insist that there is no MSG. Tell them you are allergic.
That will force them to reveal whether they use it or not.
I love Chinese Buffet.
rizlared, interesting point. Most of the buffets I've been to have signs telling patrons about wasting food and to 'eat what you take'
One restaurant (with posted warnings) will charge extra for food on your plate that's not consumed.
Next time insist that there is no MSG.

Considering the effect we had, that would be nearly everything.

I insist, there won't be a next time.
I love Chinese Buffet.

Me too, if it's done right.
There's a place a mile from my house in Miami like that. When a hurry, we do take out and they weigh the food and charge accordingly.
Specialty foods like shrimp and lobster have a higher rate. So those who fill the container with steamed shrimp get charged more.
