USA - Referendum
With all this mud slinging and hate between left and right a public referendum could come in nicely to decide if the POTUS should or should not be impeached.Democracy at its best?

However the Senate votes, history will forever note Trump was impeached.
And he is, and always will be the first president Impeached only for political reasons by a bunch of crooked demoncrats and not because of any crimes.
Anyway, this was posted in the comedy section
When a single issue dominates the public debate to an extent that it becomes the issue around which all other issues revolve, and candidates stand in such stark opposition with respect to that central issue, then yes, an election is a referendum. Such is the case in the United States now. Voting for President Trump is a vote for capitalism and liberty, voting for a Democrat is a vote for socialism and oppression. The referendum could not be any more clear.
An election is a vote for a particular party and its leadership, no more or less than a selection of a candidate for Presidency. The result is fixed and lawful.
A referendum is a vote on a specific issue, not an individual candidate or party, the result is advisory, therefore not fixed and can be overruled by the Government.
Between 1904 and 2007, some 2231 statewide referendums initiated by citizens were held in the USA. 909 of these initiatives have been approved.
We have both referenda and elections here, and I do know the difference.
Nope. Trump was voted in already warts an all.
What fedex said
Our esteemed OP should be pleased to know that the "referendum" he suggests Has Been Scheduled & will take place November 3, '20 ...
Our esteemed OP may've hit upon an idea based on simple semantics, to wit ...
In years when a sitting Prez seeks a 2nd term, replace the word "Election" with "Referendum", e.g. - "The Presidential Referendum Of 2020".
It'd convey to the electorate the concept that THEY have the authority & power to remove the Prez.
That simple perception could eliminate a repeat of the nonsense to which Murkuns have subjected the past 3 years+ ... And counting.
EXCELLENT Idea, Luke
I'll pass it 'round, you betcha!
Regardless of party.
This is proof that common sense is not so common.
Andrew Johnson was impeached for changing some of his cabinet members he had inherited from Lincoln. The Supreme Court later ruled that any incoming president can do that.
How'd that prediction go for the Democrats the last time around?
Here's how that prediction went last time 'round ...
Note that mainline/Bush-type 'Publicans were as far off as the 'Crats!
The thinking goes that The Don inherited a 'Publican Party still largely controlled by Bush Family adherents.
"Impeachment", as an issue, caused 'Publicans to Rally 'Round Their Prez & that's when The Don made the party His.
The Don should appreciate the 'Crats.
'Most everything they do works to his benefit.
I've actually heard 'CRATS suggest that Ol' Time, Yellow Dog, Pocketbook Issues 'Crats WANT the fringe Uber-Leftie SJWs to keep going after The Don cuz they're closer to HIM than they are to the Uber-Lefties who've taken over their party.
Makes sense, if one thinks 'bout it.
Learn the difference. KNOW the difference!
Donng use wide brush, finer point show more blue..
