Ahh.... the smell of burned dust...
It went down to 40 Fahrenheit with winds of 25 miles per hour last night and I put the heater on for the first time.As expected, the place filled with a burned smell as the dust on the heater coils burned away. Defeating the purpose of heat, I had the windows open for a while to allow the fresh air in and the smoke smell out.
Good thing it didn't set off the smoke detector.
Tonight, it's expected to be in the 60's so no plans for the heater... but that decision will be made later! Much later...

33F is Great for here this time of year... The snow, well, we won't talk about that..
Also easy to slip through...Just a suggestion...
and then squeeze in a thick foam rubber pads in the ends to essentially seal them in place.
I store them right next to the vents the rest of the year. Easy in & easy out.
Since the cold days down there are so few, perhaps a thick cardboard layer (or sheetrock) cut to size and duct taped to the inside of the door would suffice to stop the wind. That way, it would open & close with the door.
I'm not enjoying being a homeowner so much.
Since you are not inclined to fix things yourself,
you may want to consider a home warranty policy to cover appliances and other repairs when needed.
A sheet of plastic taped over the screen worked the first night. By morning, the winds dropped out. It was 65 at night and 85 in the afternoon.
I'm declaring Winter is over in Florida!
