Winner Take All

Winner Take All economic think of Adam Smith and Donald Trump is not the only way to carry out global trade. In 1994 John Forbes Nash Jr and others were awarded the Nobel Prize in economics for their work in mathematical game theory.

Nash's doctoral thesis - titled “Non-Cooperative Games" suggested business negotiations need not be solely a winner take all competition as Smith suggested, but a cooperative dynamic equilibrium.

Ever notice how gas stations, pharmacies and grocery stores cluster together. This is about Nash, not Smith. It is about a cooperative effort to share the market instead fighting each other to the death. Too bad Trump can't set aside his Winner Take All think. The world would be a better place if he did.

It is obvious to me, that trades where both parties benefit, is a benefit to both.
It leads to productivity, bridges, friendships, and lasting cooperation.
Trump has made every effort to destroy such endeavors, no matter what his true intent may have been. The sooner he is out of office, the better it will be for all (except the richest).
Well jim, you were headed in the right direction.....but you finished in the same place you started....lol. I may have to give up on you and admit....you are as dumb as you would like us to think.

cool
The thing is Frontnine35, Natural Law depends on an ethical framework that is SUPPOSEDLY imprinted every human being. But unbridled GREED has shown us that Natural Law does not stand up against the drive acquire wealth. The classic line - Greed is Good - Profits are All.
I'm an economist, not a philosopher. In matters of human nature you deal with a different set of parameters. And while I would rather stick to pragmatics you're not entirely far off your line of reasoning....humanity has far more variables then any economic system. Yet the motivation, however it is derived, brings us to the same goal....profits.

I got straight A's in economics. I also got out of that curriculum fast.
Trump's business acumen is unimpressive at best. His Wharton School of Finance, stable genius, claims are as bankrupt as a lot of his businesses.
Thanks for that projection about yourself. thumbs up
Because you have a lack of understanding of what I am saying, reflects on you, not anyone else.
"Tolerance only for those who agree with you is no tolerance at all".

First you need to find someone who agrees with you.....lol

As a consumer you want winners takes all. You want ALDI to obliterate Sainsburys. You want the best bang for your buck.

But as an employee or a citizen this might not be the case. You might cutback on capitalism if you believe there's a surplus of Christmas presents and shortage of well-raised kids and dedicated parents. If your society was capital rich and time poor then winner takes all is bad because of low prices, low wages and low parenting. Your time being worthless therefore you can spare none comes with a social cost.
Perhaps snowflake.....Perhaps. But my credentials are solid, and not an embellished profile of a gypsy selling trinkets and empty curses in a kiosk on the boardwalk....lolrolling on the floor laughing professor crying

cool
So, you're still in someone's shed out back instead ? laugh
Yep, but in two weeks I'll be pulling my other toy out of my other shed in St.Thomas. While you're selling good luck charms to Muslims at a kiosk in the garden state, I'll be rounding Tortola, drinking mushroom soup, entertaining friends at Stanley's and sleeping under the stars of another Island getaway. Wonder what the poor people are doing?

yay
oh I understated

There has been no evidence of human-to-human transmission in Australia.

But with 152,000 Australians visiting China yearly, and the Chinese tourist market generating about $20 billion annually for Australia, the restrictions are likely to affect a large amount of Australians and their families.

As China grapples with the rampant Wuhan coronavirus, another sickness has broken out in the country: the deadly H5N1 bird flu.

The outbreak took place at a farm near Shaoyang city, in China’s central Hunan province, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture announced on Saturday. 4,500 of the farm’s 7,850 chickens have died from the illness, and local authorities have culled nearly 20,000 birds to contain its spread.
